Tired of Messy Wire and Cable Jungles : Use Desk Grommets

by Gerry Griffin Owner
Someone who has multiple electronic devices deriving power from a single or adjacent sources at their home or office will definitely admit how tough it is to manage lengthy and tangled lines of cables and wires emerging from the different types of equipment. At an office, there will be computers, copiers, scanners, printers, speakers, projection devices, etc., with each one having its own set of wires. Similarly, a home may have an entertainment centre consisting of multiple video and audio equipment with multiple cables. They can form a messy jungle of wires and project a very disorganised and untidy look. The place might even serve as an accumulation point for debris and dust, making it a health as well as fire hazard. Besides that, it can also lead to disastrous mishaps when people trip over the tangled cords and wires and fall. On top of it, it would become difficult to locate a wire whenever there is a need to repair something.

Fortunately, there is a very effective and practical solution for the above-mentioned problems. And that is, a good cable or wire management system that consists of appropriately sized holes drilled on the top of desks and countertops at homes and workplaces. However, these holes often have sharp edges that may result in the cables and wires passed through them getting frayed due to continuous abrasion. Therefore, fitting a good quality desk power grommet is the ultimate solution. Grommets are small circular rings made of plastic, rubber or metal that can be fitted into holes of desks for providing a smooth surface to the cords and cables to pass through. The grommets also come with flip-top lids that can be snapped shut when not in use to prevent entry of dirt and dust.

As has been mentioned already, desk power grommets are manufactured using a wide variety of materials, such as rubber and similar compounds, plastics and metal in various finishes and textures. The ones of metal finishes can be bought for matching the interior decor of a space. They are very durable and strong, and provide a sleek and smooth surface that prevents cables and wires from getting stuck to edges of the holes. Installation and removal of plastic and metal desk grommets might involve usage of power tools. However, rubber grommets are flexible and would not require power tools for installation except a drilling machine.

Nowadays, desk grommets are even being manufactured with charging docks and USB hubs.
