Tips To Check Before Getting A Wax Done

by Akansha Verma Blogger
Don’t like body hair? Does it make you feel uncomfortable and conscious? Having body hair is very natural, and there are some divas out there who sport it with pride. Whereas there is absolutely no shame in letting your hair grow out, some of us do like to keep our limbs clean.

Hair removal is often a part of personal grooming. Nowadays, several ways can help you get rid of body hair. Shaving, epilating, threading and using hair removal creams are all well and good. However, waxing is still more preferable to the majority of the population because of its ease, efficiency, and because it leaves behind a perfectly smooth and soft skin for at least 2-3 weeks.

But are you unsure about waxing or thinking of getting it done for the first time? Look no further! We have some tips you should check out before your appointment.

●Skin Test

Before your waxing appointment prep yourself a little. Wax can contain artificial ingredients that might react with your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin or any allergies. If you’re aware of such sensitisation, then it is mandatory to check with your doctor or dermatologist to find out what kind of wax will suit your skin, if at all.

One more thing that can be done is - An allergy patch test. Use a small amount of the wax on an exposed area of your body like the forearm. If there is no reaction within the next two days, you’re good to go!

●Confess

Before starting with the waxing process, tell everything to your stylist. They must know about your allergies and sensitivities. This will help them choose the best type of wax for you, so your skin doesn’t needlessly suffer. It is also recommended for women to schedule their appointments during certain times a month. It is best to avoid waxing during your menstrual cycle as the skin becomes very sensitive during that time.

●Preparation

Always remember to exfoliate before your appointment. This gets rid of dead skin and also gives room for hair to grow, thus reducing the chance of ingrown hair.

Also, be sure to let your hair grow out. Long hair adheres better to the wax and makes it easy to remove from the root.

●Pain, Pain Go Away!

Be mentally prepared for the pain. It is unavoidable; however, depending on the type of wax you use and the skill of the stylist, the pain could be significantly less. Using soft wax-like Rica wax ensures less pain, especially with its pre and post waxing care.

Avoid working out or drinking coffee or alcohol before the appointment. These things increase blood flow to the surface of the skin, making it hurt more.

●Choice Of Wax

The type of wax used during waxing is extremely important. It is not just the price but the texture and the ingredients that are different. The difference is between hard and soft wax. Hard wax is generally used for the face, bikini and underarm lines and soft wax for larger areas like limbs and torso.

Also, you need to know which wax amongst honey, chocolate and Rica best suits your skin and pain endurance. Honey wax is the cheapest but hurts the most, whereas Rica wax is the most expensive and hurts the least. Chocolate wax falls in between these two.

●Buying Wax

It is highly recommended that you go to a salon for waxing because the aestheticians receive proper training for this. However, if you do choose to do it at home, good quality body wax can be purchased online. Wax price in India is as follows: Honey wax – Rs. 77 (200 gm)
Chocolate wax- Rs. 85 (200 gm)
Rica wax- Rs. 990 (800 gm)

●Aftercare

Aftercare is as important as prepping. Use proper post-wax oil for removing residual wax and gently exfoliate your skin every 2-3 days to keep it smooth and supple. Additionally, moisturise daily.
