Moving in the summer may seem like a good idea, as the weather is nice and all that, but in reality it can be quite a challenging experience. You need to prepare carefully if you are to see a successful move.

A good number of people like the idea of summer relocation, because there is usually no trouble with the weather and all of the removal companies are at their most active. However, all this activity is due to busy booking schedule and thus more clients. It will be wise to avoid moving in this season, but sometimes you don’t have this option. Here is what you do in that case:

  • Plan way in advance - summer is the peak moving season, which means that all man with a van services will be quite busy. So busy in fact that you will have trouble booking with a company for a suitable date, unless that date is far over a month away. It is wise to start contacting companies 2-3 months in advance, as that will give you plenty of time to prepare and research what firm you want to hire. Start your plans early, as the availability of all man with van services is limited and they may not accept bookings in the next few weeks. Try to schedule your move for the middle of the month and avoid moving during the weekend, as it is the busiest of all times.
  • Don’t forget about packing services - if you feel like you can handle packing on your own, it is great. You won’t have to pay extra and you will have peace of mind about your items as you know exactly how you have packed. However, if at first you have booked a moving service without packing and later discover you will need that help, chances are the moving firm won’t be able to provide it. That is because their schedule is so strict and there is almost no room for change. Assess your needs right from the start.
  • Consider special care for items vulnerable to heat - think about what you are packing and avoid items that can be damaged in the heat. Putting candles in your boxes for example is a disaster waiting to happen. Avoid packing anything that cannot endure hot temperatures. Furthermore, avoid wrapping leather upholstery in plastic, as it may cause sweating.
  • Prepare some cold drinks for you and the man and van team - moving in the heat is not an easy job. Show some understanding for the removal team and let them rest for 10 minutes or so if the work is taking long. A glass of water and a short break goes a long way in ensuring that they get the job done fast and without any potential problem for your items.
  • Air-conditioning - if the weather is too hot, chances are you have air-conditioning installed. One thing to keep in mind is that such a task requires a lot of open space, including leaving the doors. Turn off your air-conditioning if you don’t want to see an increase in your bill.
  • Ensure the comfort of your pets - any cat and dog will require some special care during the move. The movers will create a zone of plenty of activity and make it possible for your companion to escape through the open door. It is best if you keep them out of the way on moving day and let them stay with a friend or relative for a while. It is better than seeing them dart out the open door.

Moving in the summer is not easy, but following these tips guarantees success, if you really have to go through this at this time. Do not miss any of the important details, least you experience trouble that is hard to deal with.
