Thai food is now world famous for its health giving attributes that include anti-ageing and weight loss. It is one of the delicious and unique foods on the planet. But Thai food is noted for its amazing ingredients. We already know about the commonplace ingredients such as

Coconut milk is a top ingredient in Thai cuisine to tone the balance between spicy heat with creamy sweetness. It is used in many recipes replacing milk and cream to add a wonderful texture to all including soups and desserts.

Mushrooms:  We know that Straw mushrooms as common ingredients of Thai cuisine in Tom-Yum soup and others. But it is unfounded to say that all types of mushrooms are used in preparing Thai food. Only three mushrooms are actually used. Shiitake mushroom is never an ingredient though it creates confusion as an ingredient.

Meat and poultry:  In the use of meat also there is moderation. There is no excess meat in Thai food as you can find them in various cooking recipes. This is to respect the belief systems of the people who consider food as sacred. So there are considerable restraints in making dishes. Thai food is popular and many food lovers have a sworn life of non-meat lifestyle when it comes to eating. The reduced amount of meat in Thai food also contributes to health-giving attributes.

Vegetables: Thai food uses a number of vegetables as well as fruits. Here too moderation is the key though you will find them regularly in all the food. A person not accustomed to Thai cooking must know this.

Fish:  It is another good ingredient. But a select few is actually used in the preparation of Thai foods. Generally crab, mackerel, and shrimp are the main fish used in making Thai dishes. Shrimp is used as a paste and adds wonderful flavour to a dish. You will see a lot of shrimp paste listed in the ingredients of many Thai recipes.

In your quest to eat authentic Thai food you can put in the efforst to get the best ingredients and study to use them appropriately. You must also know what should be included in the food and what should not be. Only then you can prepare dishes exactly the same way you have it in the favourite Thai restaurant. So take time to understand the value and volume of ingredients and avoid all cooking hassles once and forever.
