Chocolate Stains

Whether you love chocolate or don’t have much of a sweet tooth, there is always the chance that chocolate stains can unexpectedly appear on your carpet.

Remember that the longer the chocolate stain sits, the harder it will be to remove it. Like with most carpet stains, the best thing to do is to act quickly.

As soon as you discover the stain, remove as much of the chocolate as you can using a butter knife or scraping tool.
– Run cold water directly over the carpet stain.
– Using a bit of dish-washing detergent and a clean cloth, rub the stain in a circular motion. Then let it sit for a few minutes.
– Rinse the area with cold water again and blot the area with a dry clean white cloth to remove as much moisture as possible.

Makeup Stains

When you’re in a hurry, it’s easy to spill some of your powder, foundation or eye shadow onto your beautiful plush carpeting. But there’s no use crying over spilt blush, right?

– Act as soon as possible. If you see any excess makeup on the surface of the carpet, carefully scoop it up with a cloth or plastic spoon.
– For each specific makeup stain, there is a specific solution you can mix when tackling how to remove makeup stains:
Nail polish: no-color, no fragrance non-acetone nail polish remover
Foundation (liquid): 3% hydrogen peroxide solution
Eye-liner and mascara: 1 cup of warm water with ¼ teaspoon of dish washing liquid
Lipstick: paint remove or rubbing alcohol
– After you’ve mixed the appropriate solution based on the specific makeup type of stain you’re tackling, add a small amount of the solution to a clean white cloth. You’ll want to make sure the cloth is damp, but not completely soaked.
– Blot the makeup stain (avoid rubbing) using the saturated cloth. It’s important to firmly blot to lift as much of the makeup residue out of the carpet as possible.
– After the stain has been removed, spray the affected area with water to rinse out any solution. Once the carpet is completely dry, vacuum the area.

Coffee Stains

Everybody spills coffee at some point in their life and there's a good chance that it'll be on your carpet.

Immediately throw pieces of kitchen paper onto the soiled carpet and apply pressure by using your palm to absorb as much of the excess fluid as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain or you will end up spreading the coffee stain. Repeat this step until no more excess coffee can be absorbed by the kitchen paper.

Next it’s time to blot the stain. First, spray or sprinkle some amount of cool water onto the coffee stained carpet area and start blotting using a clean damp cloth. Do not drench the carpet with water as the carpet should just remain damp during the cleaning process or you may end up damaging the carpet. Repeat the step till stain is lightened.

Next step is to clean stain using stain removal solution. You may remove fresh coffee stain by applying dish washing detergent, vinegar, soda water, whichever of these solutions that you can find in your kitchen pantry. Dilute 1 spoon of dish washing detergent with 1 cup of water, or ½ cup of vinegar with ½ cup of water, and spray the solution onto the coffee stained carpet. Start blotting using a clean damp cotton cloth. Repeat the step until all the stains are removed. Then rinse the cleaned carpet by blotting the area with a clean damp cloth to remove soap or vinegar solution in the carpet.

Finally place some kitchen paper on the wet carpet and apply pressure on it to absorb the excess fluid from the carpet. You may use a hair dryer to dry the carpet if there is one in your house.

Mustard Stains

This might have occurred whilst feeding the baby, enjoying some hotdogs or a barbeque or maybe you just love having mustard on everything! When this tasty condiment makes its way off your food and onto your carpet:

– Carefully scrape away any remaining mustard
– Pour club soda directly onto the stain and blot it with a clean towel.
– If the mustard stain is still visible (it may have disappeared by this step), spray the stain with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of detergent and 2 cups of warm water. Let this solution soak into the carpet for 5 minutes.
– Rinse the carpet with cold water and blot dry.
