House fires are dangerous, results in destruction and sometimes deaths too. Garage fires can be lethal. Fires inside garages are not analyzed as easily as fires inside house, things stored inside garages encourage fire and may lead to explosion.

Below are 8 tips to prevent garage fires:

1.    Flammable Liquids

Stored paints, oil mixtures, and gases are main motivators of garage fires. The highly flammable components like car oil should be stored in a detached shade, and if it is not possible, try to store them in small amount. Label them properly and place them away from heaters, appliances, pilot light or any other flammable source.

2.    Propane Tank

Propane tanks do not belong in garages at all. Once you are done with the BBQ, wheel it into the garage, detach the propane tank immediately after use. Store this highly flammable tank in the backyard. They are strong enough to withstand harsh weather. Leaving them alone in the garage is not a good idea because propane is highly combustible and on exposure to fire, it explodes quickly.

3.    Spilling

If spilling happens in the garage, don’t just leave it. Analyze the spilled liquid and make sure it is not flammable. Find the source from which leaking is taking place, stop it and clean up the spill. Do not create mess on the garage floor.

4.    Fire Doors

Fire doors are fundamental elements in the garage evacuation zones. You can contact a garage Door Company to install high-quality garage doors in your home. Make sure your fire door should withstand extreme flames and heat for up to 30 minutes.

5.    Electrical connections

Avoid overloading outlets and make sure to vanish the spider webs, debris and dirt from light fixtures and wires, they should not interfere with the electrical system.

6.    No Pets

The garage door must not have a pet door. Although, it will be convenient for your pet to enter the garage but, in case of fire it is not going to be a safe place for them.

7.    Get out of the tape

Tie carefully all your wires and cords with tape, make sure they are not pulled or twisted. Obviously, one will want a safe wiring in their garage.

8.    Keep it tidy

If no one visits your garage, it does not mean that you will not create a mess there. Remember, a messy environment works as fuel for a fire. One of the best ways to combat fire is to keep the garage clean and tidy.
