Tips For Coming Up With Unique Dog Names
Lady Gaga calls her dog "Asia" and President Obama named his "Bo". What about you....?
Dogs are the most popular pets. They can also be a lot of work, (although that hasn't stopped 40 million Americans from owning one!) However, one of the most fun parts of owning a pooch is choosing a cool name for your new family member. Naming a dog can be more difficult than naming your son or daughter due to the huge variety of names.
Do you assign a name according to its color, breed, characteristics, or even your favorite food! The fact that a dog can be named in innumerable ways makes it difficult to decide but fortunately, there are now many websites dedicated to helping you (after you've finished my blog of course!)
Many people name their dog depending on the breed and personality of the animal. For example, if you are the proud owner of a Doberman, you could give it a name to reflect strength and toughness, so, male dog names can be Clint, Axel, Tyson , Bruno, Bullet, Rambo, Hulk, Ninja - anything and everything that comes to mind when you think of strength or power.
German Shepherds remind us of honor and courage. So for boys, give them names like Achilles, Caesar, or Arnie. Female German Shepherds can be called Grace, Venus or even Diana (who was the Roman goddess of wild animals). How about a very fashionable female Chihuahua? Options here could include Princess, Daisy, Lola, Joy, Dolly or Minnie.
How about giving your new dog a name according to how it makes you feel. Here is an easy solution. Just try words that come into your mind when you think of your pooch. This can include anything from Ghost, Rain, Wolf or Ruby.
Is your dog a little greedy or are you a big foodie?....name it Biscuit, Reuben, Brandy or Cocoa? Do you feel like hugging and cuddling your dog all day long? Cute names like Teddy, Poppy, Bambi or Precious can be perfect. Weird names include Toto, Ziggy, Pee-wee or Cheddar-bob. These kinds of dog names can be given irrespective of the gender.
Go retro!! For girl dog names, age-old names like Bella, Wendy, Molly can be given. If you can't think of any modern or "out of the box" names, simply go with the "old is gold" philosophy. If those names sound too old fashioned...then put the old wine in a new bottle. Convert Bella to Bellie or Charlie to Challo?
Many pet owners love to personify their dogs. If you treat your pooch like a little baby girl, call it Britney, Margaret or Angel. For the boys, Charles, George or Albert sound very humanlike..
Still confused? OK! Take the coward's way out and just go by the color. It's an easy and popular way to name dogs. Call a brown dog Choccy or a white dog Vanilla. Other names signifying color are Sepia, Midnight, Twilight, Smoky or Casper.
Dogs have been our loyal companions since time immemorial. Dogs are man's best friend. So, why not name it after other things that you really love? If you are a coder and Java is your favorite programming language, don't hesitate to name it Java. Are you a huge fan of Kim Kardashian or Justin Bieber? You can even call a dog Raider after your favorite football team.
Dogs are often associated with events in your life. Did your girl-friend just accept your proposal? Then what can be more appropriate than 'Cupid', the God of Love? If you have just returned from a great holiday in Australia, what better than Ozzy.
Has your dog given birth to some cute puppies? Then you must be having a tough time naming them! If you need multiple names, try to keep the names in sync with each other. How about "DO", "RE", "MI" or "Pluto", "Venus" and "Saturn"?
The thing that matters is that you choose a name that makes you smile but more importantly, isn't too embarrassing to shout on your daily walks in the park! All that being said, your dog will give you unconditional love no matter what name you choose.
