There are a few things you should consider when choosing the right pond covers for your needs.

Your first concern should be water clarity. Water clarity determines the quality of light your water will receive. A pond with poor water clarity will have shortened aquatic life, low plant growth, and reduced oxygen levels in the water. Pond water with poor clarity will appear cloudy or discolored.

You should also think about your pond’s purpose. Are you mainly looking to stock your pond with fish? If so, you’ll want a pond cover that is easy to maintain.

How to Install Pond Covers

There are a few different types of pond covers that you can choose from. When purchasing a new pond cover, make sure it is big enough to completely cover your pond. It is also a good idea to double-check the dimensions before you start to construction.

Build a wooden frame that is large enough to accommodate the cover you choose. The frame should be large enough so that you can later install pond lights on it. If you are installing a floating pond cover, it is also a good idea to build the frame out of floating material.

Next, select the right type of pond cover for your needs. For instance, an oval-shaped pond will require a round cover. If you have a rectangular-shaped pond, a square cover will work best.

Find a location that is close to the ground. This will help to protect your pond from flooding and keep the weeds at a minimum.
