Image If you are new to writing affirmations, or find that your current affirmations are starting to lose their impact, here are some helpful tips in writing affirmations that will make you happy, inspire you,and most importantly make it easy for you to enjoy working towards your goals.

Be specific:

Make each sentence as specific as possible. This affirmation is for you, so make it as personal as possible. If you really want it to work, it needs to hit you deeply each time you read it. By getting deep down and personal and as specific as possible with your affirmations, you will accomplish your goals much more quickly.

For example, let’s say one of the things you are working on is saving money. Look at the difference in the impact level of the examples below:

a)  I will save money.

b)  I will save $500 per month.

c)   I will have $10,000 saved in 1 year!

d)  I will not spend money needlessly.

e) Spending money needlessly causes me stress and worry. I choose to SAVE towards FUN things like VACATIONS!!

f)  Saving money =happiness and security

Choose visual imagery wisely:

In the example of saving money for vacations above, I would recommend using beautiful images of your preferred travel destinations to make the affirmation really pop and hit your subconscious. You’ll find that when you are about to “spend needlessly” the images will pop up in your mind reminding you of your goals, making it easier for you to remember what you are saving for.

Try new images to see what works best:

I found out through trial and error what works best for me. While beautiful travel destinations are wonderful, depending on the item I am trying to change or reinforce, I sometimes need to get creative. I LOVE animals, all animals, and I found that no matter my mood, if I put cute baby animals or funny animal images into my affirmations, the results were dramatically improved for me. Learn what really works for you and I guarantee it will work wonders for you.

Repeat yourself:

I find using less images and repeating them more often throughout your affirmation is more effective. Try to keep things as simple and as specific as possible and you’ll retain the affirmation/image combinations more easily. You can envision them in your mind when needed.

Listen to music:

Music makes a dramatic difference in the impact of your affirmations. If you use louder faster music, you may find your energy levels increase, and if you use slower, more melodic music, you may find you get a little more emotionally connected to your affirmation.

Move your body:

I cannot stress how important this element is. I don’t know why this makes as much of an impact as it does, but I can guarantee when you try it for yourself, you will completely agree. Even the slightest movement helps; tapping your finger, hand, or foot to the beat of your music somehow makes the messages in your affirmations ink into your brain with much more impact. For best results, I recommend moving your entire body, whether you walk in place or do aerobics, you will feel amazing afterwards!
