Each person tries to find a hobby for himself and try to do some kind of art. Rock painting is ideal for those new to art. This is because there is no need to spend a large amount of money to purchase the necessary materials. All you need is a good imagination as well as enthusiasm.

Any paint and brush are suitable for rock painting. To find inspiration, you can use the artworks of famous artists who have been doing this kind of work for a long time. A beginner can learn interesting ideas from such masterpieces, or watch educational video guides, master classes in search of rock painting ideas. It is much more pleasant to create your own drawing with the author's vision.

Preparatory stage of rock painting

Stone paintings are often used by modern landscape designers to decorate various areas. But painting on stones is not limited only to this application. Artwork created in this way can be used literally everywhere: to emphasize the design of a bathroom or to furnish a mantelpiece in an original way.

For such activities, it is better to use stones that have a smooth and even surface. First you need to rinse them well using soapy water and a pinch of baking soda, and then let them dry. You can wait for natural drying or speed up the process with a hair dryer. This is how the stone will be prepared for painting.

Most stones have a porous structure, so they often need additional surface treatment before applying paint. To fill the pores, glue and a primer are usually applied, which are brought to a very liquid state.

Basic methods of painting on stone

There are three main methods by which painting on stones is realized:

1. Decoupage is the most common method of painting stones. Thanks to this method, even a person who has never held a brush in his hands can achieve a good result.

You will need a napkin or any paper that already has some kind of drawing on it and an iron. The front side of the napkin drawing should be put on cellophane and ironed. Alternatively, you can use any polyethylene material. After that, such a blank is poured with cool water.

The last thing you need to do is attach your blank to the previously prepared rock, and your beautiful painted stone is ready. Trim the edges slightly as a finishing touch, and after completion of the work, cover the stone with varnish.

This option is perfect for those people who can't draw. But people who have artistic talent can use several more methods.

2. The second method is the double smear technique. The essence of the method is that several colors must be applied to the brush at once. This will create a double effect on the stone. You can also combine different colors, for example, yellow and blue or purple and turquoise. Using this method, drawing flowers and petals is very easy and spectacularly. After completing the drawing, the stone also needs to be varnished.

3. The third method involves the use of stencils. In this case, you can pick up any geometric figures and objects of absolutely any shape.

You can find ideas in children's coloring pages or choose a ready-made stencil on the Internet. If you are confident in your artistic skills, you can create your own stencil.

The contour of the stencil is applied to the stone with a pencil. After that you can apply acrylic paint or gouache, depending on your taste. Please note that when using aerosol paint, the figures will turn out to be livelier and will look quite impressive.

These are the main methods and techniques that can be used to paint stones. There are, of course, other options to add to the list. Each artist can use their own skills and imagination to create their own technique for painting stones.

The final stage

After applying each layer of paint, the stone must be left to dry for 15-20 minutes. The same is done after the drawing is finished. Basically, when the acrylic paint is dry, the decor is ready. You can take it outside; decorate your garden or lawn with it, because its cover will withstand rain and wind.

For greater effect, the painted stones are covered with a layer of acrylic varnish. For these purposes, choose transparent varnishes, which are applied by spraying. The lacquered patterns on the pebbles will not only become stronger, but also brighter, the surface will acquire a glossy shine.

Recently, painting on stones has been gaining great popularity thanks to the skill of artists and handicraftsmen. Painting stones is a hobby not only for creative people with artistic talent. Both children and adults can engage in such activity. The key to success is your inexhaustible enthusiasm and unlimited desire to create beauty!
