Things You Need to Know About PTE Exams

by Jiya Martin Support Executive
The Pearson Test of English Academic or PTE is a computer-based test designed to test the knowledge of the non-native English speakers looking forward to studying abroad. The test basically tests the 4 skills- reading, speaking, writing, and listening to the English language. The questions often test 2 skills at the same time i.e. listening and reading or reading and speaking. The entire test is given on a computer in a single session that lasts for 3 hours and takes place is a secured environment. When it comes to the speaking part, the voice of the candidate is recorded and is then sent for the analysis and marking. The candidates can get their results within just 5 days.

One of the biggest advantages of this test is that its scores are accepted on a global level by all the institutions, universities, and governments. It is one of the most important parts of fulfilling your Visa application if you are going for further studies.

Review and Retaking PTE Academic Exam

At times it happens that a student might not be happy with his/her PET score. In such a case, he/she can apply for reviewing the marks as well as retaking the test. In contrary to the paper-based proficiency examinations like IELTS, PTE Academic is a totally computer based examination and hence the chance of any redundancy or error is very unlikely. However, there are certain sections like open-ended answers and spoken responses that can be reviewed for any inconsistency.

If you don’t want to get your score reviewed, you can opt for retaking the test in case you are disappointed with your overall score. In fact, you can apply for retaking the PTE Academic as many times as you want until you get the perfect score. However, you can only do so once you receive the scores of the previous test.

Things to Know Before Retaking PTE

If you are planning on retaking the PTE Academic, then there are certain things that you should know-
  • You need to apply for a rescore or a retest within 14 days after you receive your initial test score.
  • To score better in your PTE exam, you need to focus on the two sections- Spoken and Writing. You should improve your knowledge before taking this test.
  • It is advised to take coaching from a reputed coaching institute so that you can do better in your retest.
  • In case there is a mistake in your score, the rescore fees will be refunded to you.
  • Practice speaking and writing English as much as possible as this is the only way to score better in your retest.
