Things to Consider During Email Hosting Transfer

by Mike C. I am a Business man

There could be a number of reasons why you would want to transfer your business emails to the new hosting provider. While some people make the switch because they are not satisfied with the performance, others do it because they get new features and offers. Sometimes you need to make the switch when the business is growing and your current provider is not capable of managing your emails. Regardless of the reason, here are some important things you will want to keep in mind during the transfer.

Things You will Need

While transferring the business email hosting here are some of the things you will certainly require:

-          The list of all the email addresses you active or already created with the current hosting services. You may also want to include the new email addresses you want to create in the list.

-          The password and username to access your email domain with the existing hosting services provider.

-          A phone number or an alternate email address where you are available in case the email hosting provider needs to reach you in case there is a problem during the process of transfer.

Choosing the Right Time

Timing is of essence while transferring your business email service to another host. If your office remains closed on weekends or there is lean staffing during that time, choose to initiate the transfer process somewhere on the evening of Friday. Your new provider may fail to tell you this but starting the transfer process during the off days will minimize the communication problems.

The email transfer process may take 24 hours. If you are doing it during a work day, the emails will get delayed and there will be communication issues. Also, if the transfer process encounters any unforeseen issues, you will have enough time to get it fixed. In other words, the impact of transfer on your business and employees will be minimal during the weekends.

Have a Control over Your Domain

While buying the new business email hosting package, ask the provider if you will be able to keep your domain name. If the company says that you will need a new domain with their own name servers, make sure you do not choose that hosting provider. Some hosting companies ask for this because they want to have more control over your domain. This makes their job much easier. However, your job could become quite difficult later. Remember that you have bought your domain and now you own it. Therefore, you should have the complete control over it.
