Things to consider before buying a MacBook

by Trans Intl Trans Intl

Summary: Are you excited about buying your new laptop? If you are planning to get a MacBook, you need to keep in mind and consider a few things before making your purchase. A well-informed decision can save you money, and you will end up acquiring the right product according to your specific needs and budget.

Deciding on screen size and portability

Apple offers two laptop lines 1) MacBook Air, and 2) MacBook Pro, each with different screen sizes. First of all, you need to decide the screen size you need or want. If you are looking for a 13.3-inch model, you have to consider other specifications for deciding whether to get a 13-inch MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.

Besides the screen size, you need to be aware of the weight of the model, and how that can impact portability. Though recent MacBook products are much lighter compared to the past models, some lie heavier than others. Particularly for those models on a large campus, it is quite different to carry a 28 pound MacBook Air than a 4.3 Pound 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Go for high speed processor

You can't swap out parts of any current MacBook models. Keeping this in mind, you must consider how much you can afford to get a high-speed processor. Mac Pro 16 core 3.2 GHz Intel xeon can be a great choice if your budget supports you.

If your purpose of buying a new laptop is taking notes, and writing reports, invest less and save yourself some money. Conversely, if you want to do creative work through an adobe product or something like Final Cut Pro, then you must consider investing in a bigger processor.

What about the RAM

Determining how much computer memory to purchase is also important. RAM or random access memory is the short term data storage of your system. The larger the memory, the faster your computer will be able to access data. In addition to that, the more programs you will run on your system, the more memory it will need to perform efficiently. Once purchased, you are not allowed to change the RAM, so make sure you choose wisely.

How much storage do you need?

Thanks to cloud-based computing, onboard storage on computers are not as significant as it used to be just a few years ago. The minimum storage on any MacBook stands at 256GB which may not be enough for you over the long-term. Conversely, 1TB of storage can be too much for many.

You can think of backing your MacBook through the built-in time machine feature. To do that, you need to spend on a portable hard drive which comes at different sizes and prices. So, take your time, and decide on the Mac pro add hard drive you need.
