However, if you do not maintain the bikes properly, the bikes' performance will deteriorate and you will be unable to enjoy riding it for long. The bikes are not like T-1000 in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day, so they require proper maintenance.

We here state about the maintenance checklist that you need to follow. The maintenance checklist will help you ensure proper operation of the bike and have the best experience behind the handlebars.

Air filter

There are various reasons for the air filter to malfunction. There may be harmful particles that remain embedded inside the filter or moisture may have accumulated during the previous ride. You must have a look at the air filter and air box before every ride. You need to ensure that the filter has appropriately enveloped in the correct amount of oil. It is also right that you use the best quality air filter for better performance. It is best to use dual-stage, bonded foam filters with thick sealing rings.

Brake pads

You must understand that brake pads do not last for an extended period. The regular wear and tear wears the brake pad and then the hardened steel brake plate can damage the brake rotor. Moreover, when the brake pad has eroded in such a situation, you may have difficulty in braking. If you notice that the brake pad material is less than 1.00 mm, it is ideal for changing it.

Engine oil

Oil is the blood that pumps through the heart of the dirt bikes. It lubricates and cools the internal components so that they function correctly. You must check the engine oil level before every ride. If you see that the oil level is below the halfway mark of the sight glass, then it is high time to pour some more oil.

It is also useful to change the oil at regular intervals. The oil breaks down due to heat and pressure and then it is of no use to cool the engine or the internal components. The heat buildup will hamper the performance of the bike.

The tension of the chain

You need to check the tension of the chain regularly. Though mostly overlooked, checking the tension of the chain is one of the critical maintenance. As the chain transforms the engine's rotational energy to the rear wheel, it must have the proper tension. The tension must be appropriate. If it is loose, then it may fall off and if too tight, it may snap.

The best way to maintain the chain is to lift the rear wheel above ground, lubricate the chain, and rotate the rear wheel for a while.

Sprockets

The sprockets transfer power to the rear wheel. The regular stress on the sprockets makes it wear out and then the chain may not rotate properly and transform the power to the rear wheel. You can have sprockets made of aluminum or steel. Aluminum is lightweight, while the steel one offers durability.

Fluids

It is rear that riders check the fluid level before a ride. However, it is a necessary activity. It is unwise to think that the fluid level is proper. It is wise to check the coolant fluid level before every ride. It is wise to use a 50/50 blend of coolant.

Wheels

While you ride your dirt bike, then the wheel has to bear extreme load and stress. It is better to check the wheels before every ride. You need to check if the pressure of the wheel is proper before hitting the track. You also need to check the rim. You need to ensure they are round and do not have any crack.

These maintenances will enable you to ride the bikes with safety and enjoy the ride.
