by Vaibhav Kumar Pragyan Institute of Education

We associate the term classified ads with newspaper advertising. The latter has been into existence since time immemorial. It was soon after the invention of the printing press that print adverts and notices came into existence. However, it was not a refined version back then as it is now. Nowadays newspaper adverts are more sophisticated and modern when compared with the good old times. Plus, due to plethora of newspapers that include national dailies and regional newspapers, etc. there is no dearth of such notices that are seen everywhere in every news journal.

Also, newspaper classified ads provide access to a large population pool in a very less price when compared with its other counterparts. Other channels of marketing and promotion viz. electronic media etc. are costly and might burn a hole in the advertiser’s pocket!

Throwing light more on the types of newspapers; there are many types viz. national dailies, regional news journals, vernaculars, community or local papers, etc. Both individuals as well as commercial set-ups promote their offerings via newspaper notices. National dailies provide PAN India promotion of the notice whereas on the other hand a regional news journal provides access to the regional population of an area.

One of the renowned names is The Telegraph that is read by many people and hence a lot of people publish their notices in this newspaper so as to get best response from their target audience. The Telegraph newspaper classified ads can be published for category viz. lost and found, matrimonial, property, recruitment, situation vacant, etc.

You can publish any of the three types of adverts viz. classified text ads, classified display ads and display ad posts. Usually commercial advertising is done via display ad posts that are full page, half page or quarter page notices meant to promote a product or service. They are also meant for branding purposes to promote a brand amongst its target customer base. Moving on to the next type that is classified display ads; so these are not the regular Black and white notices but use coloured text and bigger font to highlight the message so that more and more people get attracted towards it. Last but not the least are the most basic of all ad types i.e. classified text ads that use Black and White font and have fixed price and the extra words in a line are charged accordingly.

So, the next time you go for a print advert consider The Telegraph for newspaper advertising.
