Salalah is the second largest city in the Sultanate Of Oman and the monsoon season in Salalah is known as ‘Khareef Salalah.’ A yearly monsoon festival is held in the city of Salalah to celebrate this season and it has gained a lot of popularity with tourism.

During the festival of Salalah, a number of tourists camps are pitched on the north side of the city- many exotic cooking stalls are also placed in the vicinity. The Salalah Monsoon Festival was first started by the government of Oman in 1952 to boost the tourism in the country. During the Salalah Monsoon Festival, the tourists also go to Mughsail in the west of Salalah to enjoy swimming in the area. Because of the high wind and rain during the season, the waters can experience high tide and become quite rough, so a great deal of care should be taken while swimming. However the enjoyment of swimming in Mughsail becomes double during the Khareef season.

The tourists can enjoy a wonderful vacation in Oman by locking at its scenic beauty. People travel to Oman from all over the world, either for business or pleasure and Oman certainly helps them make the most of their trip by providing them with suitable accommodations or offering them various travel options. The modern hotels in Oman are furnished with five star restaurants, huge banquet halls, conference rooms, sports and gym facilities, entertainment activities and international shopping centers. Every place is staffed with friendly and helpful workers who ensure that the visitors receive the best service and do not have any complaints regarding the products and services offered.

Some of the bet hotels in Oman include the Chedi Hotel,  the Al Bustan Palace, Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resot Hotel, City Seasons Hotel, Al Waha Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Golden tulip Nizwa, Sahib Hotel, Al Diyar Hotel and Ras Al Jinz. Apart form the hotels, forts, deserts and beaches, the falaj is the most travelled place in Oman. A falaj in Oman is an underground flow of water that works through a channel dug in the ground and makes up a big part of the irrigation system of Oman. Some of the main Oman tourist places like the parks and resort use falaj to create a beautiful look. Falaj are created because of the underground lakes that are made due to the permeability or porosity of the rocks. These rock qualities result in lake formation and through these lakes. Water can flow through the system of falaj.  A falaj can be as deep as 50 meters and as long as 12 kilometers.

Although the system of falaj is quite old, the administration of Oman constantly keeps it maintained in order to have a good water distribution system.
