The Role of Emotional Intelligence in SSB Interviews

Introduction
 
In the SSB interview emotional intelligence plays a significant role to succeed. If a candidate is emotionally intelligent and knows how to balance his/her emotions well, then a person can encompass self-awareness, be empathic towards other candidates, and can understand others emotionally well. As we all know being emotional teaches you to be humble, kind, and helpful to others. Whereas, if a candidate does not have emotional traits in his/her behavior will not be able to manage and coordinate with other team members. So, being emotionally intelligent is very necessary in the SSB Interview.
 
What is Emotional Intelligence?
 
The term Emotional Intelligence refers to an ability to handle your as well as other person's emotions by being humble, polite, and kind towards them. Emotional Intelligence consists of five factors which are empathy, social skills, motivation, self-awareness, and self-regulation. During the SSB interview emotional intelligence helps a candidate in creating a rapport with the Interviewing Officer and other candidates.
 
Role of Emotional Intelligence in SSB Interview
 
Emotional Intelligence plays a vital role during the SSB interview, because other traits and qualities depend on it. So, here are some areas where emotional intelligence can be tested.
 
1.Mental wellness
 
Being emotionally strong helps us to deal with mental issues like stress, anxiety, and nervousness and keeps us mentally fit. So, for a candidate who is appearing for the SSB interview, being emotionally intelligent is very necessary, in order to deal with tricky situations and coordinate with other group members.
 
2. Relationships
 
A person who knows how to balance an emotion can manage relationships very well. So, being able to manage, communicate and understand emotions better will always give fruitful results to you, be it the personal relationships or the professional one and relationships tend to grow stronger and better. Moreover, this trait will help a candidate to manage the group during the GTO tasks.
 
3. Physical health
 
If a person is emotionally weak and stressed, it will affect his physical health badly and it can also spoil candidates performance during the ground tasks. In order to avoid negative impact at the time of tasks, candidates should work on his/her emotional intelligence and try to maintain a positive outlook with good health.
 
4. In solving problem
 
If candidates are emotionally strong, then they can lead their team very well, as they have a quality of understanding others' problems and therefore, they can easily resolve other candidates' conflicts during the tasks. Emotionally intelligent person is also considered as a better negotiating person because he can easily fulfill other's requirements in a better way.
 
5. Leadership
 
An emotionally intelligent person can lead a team in a perfect and strategic manner. The motive of an emotionally intelligent person is to motivate others in a positive way to reach their goal. So, at the time of SSB Interview candidates should encourage their group members to achieve their goal and complete the tasks. If a candidate succeeds in managing his team well, it will reflect leadership quality and will work as an advantage for the candidate.
 
6. Success
 
A person suffering from a mental disorder can never succeed in life. To become a successful candidate, a person should work on his emotions and always try to adopt positivity in life, because only a person full of positivity can be confident, and can face any task or challenge to achieve success.

Being high on Emotional Intelligence will surely help you to do well during the SSB interview. So, candidates who are not emotionally intelligent have to work on themselves, they can take advice from their mentor or from a counselor to develop emotional intelligence in their traits.
