All-terrain vehicles are an adventure seekers' dream machine. They are powerful, sturdy, and are capable of roaring past the most difficult of terrains. These machines will take you where possibly feet were the only options, and not only that, they are equipped for utilitarian purposes as well.

The popularity of all-terrain vehicles (ATV’s) is on an all-time rise in India. The fan following is now not limited to any one particular region or age group. ATV’s are for pure hardcore adventure seekers and nature lovers.

ATVs are mainly used for non-highway recreational purposes. There are also many variants of an ATV. They may vary depending upon the sizes and capacity of the engines. In its initial stages, ATVs were also available on 3 wheels. Moreover, the following is an illustration of the different types of ATV’s in the market:

•    Utility ATV:

Often classified as the work-horses of the ATV world, they are quite popular in industries, farms, and also among hunters in various regions of the world.

•    Sports ATVs:

These machines range from 250cc to 700cc engines. They are also comparatively lighter in weight and come with better suspensions. Moreover, they are also popular among modification enthusiasts.

•    Children’s ATVs

They are much smaller in size and engine capacity. The engine size usually ranges from 50cc to 125cc at the most. These machines are powered by automatic transmissions, and some manufacturers have also created electric powered children’s ATVs.

The Recent Development

In India, many off-highway tracks, cross country trails, and tracks with combinations of water, land, swamps, ice/snow, and other natural terrains have come up in the recent past. These terrains are the ideal spaces for testing and racing the ATVs.

Also, the highway ministry of India had only recently given permission to the manufacturing of all-terrain vehicles. They are though required to be only used for adventure sports and border security in difficult terrains. Enthusiasts of ATV in Bangalore and other major metro cities were seen cheering this news.

Many ATV companies have started investing in India and projecting bullish numbers. These companies have projected that the ATV market is set to grow increasingly in the coming years. Though most of them import the entire vehicle, they are just waiting for the optimum position to set up their manufacturing plants in India. Moreover, in the meantime, their dealership network is set to expand and penetrate more cities.

The prices

ATVs since they are mostly imported, end up costing quite a lot. As a result, the current client base comprises of vehicle aficionados and the high net worth individuals. The prices may decline once the manufacturing plants are set up in India. However, that would only depend on how big the Indian market becomes in coming years.

ATVs are considered to be synonymous with adventures and sports of sorts. But, this is due to a myopic vision. These machines have proven worthwhile for security purposes, rescue missions, and they have also increased the potential to access certain areas that are deemed difficult. These powerhouses are indeed changing the world.
