The presence of anti-Semitism in Christianity
Since my childhood, I never understood how somebody could claim to be a Christian and to blatantly hate Jewish people.
My grandmother used to be a fervent Catholic. She wanted me to be a pious person and kept speaking to me about the Bible and Jesus. Yet she didn't like Jews at all. Obviously Catholic church also had its part of responsibility in my grandma's dislike of Jewish people; in many official texts and catholic prayer books, Jews appeared as "God killers" or the " God killer" nation.
To my objections that the one she revered as Jesus the Messiah was a Jew Himself, I never received any objective statement or explanation.
Maybe my grandma had the excuse of belonging to older generations and of being influenced by a whole clerical hierachy. Maybe not. I do consider, from a personal point of view, that we always have the choice to distance ourselves from corporate beliefs.
But what about many contemporary Christians?
I noticed that a lot of them will accept, theoretically that the One they are calling "Jesus" was born and lived like a Jew-as long as it doesn't derange their habits.
If I start calling Him Yeshua, I attract a little bit hostility from a few of them.
If I state that Yeshua and His relatives were Torah-observant, I manage to anger more of them.
If I share a little bit of my biblical and cultural Hebrew knowledge, some of them will come up with their translated version of the Bible to prove me wrong and stating that "God has abandoned Israel...because they abandoned "Jesus".
May I just raise my hand and ask a question: you are all preaching love and forgiveness, where is your LOVE and FORGIVENESS for Israel?
Please note that I am not targeting ALL Christians-only the ones who keep making anti-Semitic statements, often out of PURE IGNORANCE.
I have been approached by the Messiah of Israel. The path Yeshua has shown me is a path of love and forgiveness. Oh did I forget to mention that He revealed Himself to me as the Jewish Messiah?
