The Most Commonly Used Approaches in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Northern Beaches

by David Watson Blogger

Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM as it is popularly known has its origination in China. It evolved over 1000s of years before. It is rooted in ancient philosophy of Taoism. The traditional systems of medicine even exist in other South and East Asian nations including Korea and Japan.

Some systems have been influenced by TCM and are same to it in a few ways but each one of it has developed a distinctive feature of its own. The practitioners of TCM in Northern Beaches use different techniques for promoting health and treating disease. They use herbal medicines, acupuncture as well as different body and mind practices like tai chi.

Acupuncture: This is a group of methods involving stimulation of certain points on body using different techniques. The technique of acupuncture, which has been studied scientifically most often involves penetrating the skin with solid, think, metal needles, which are manipulated by electrical stimulation or by hands. Acupuncture is usually considered safe when performed by an expert practitioner using sterile needles. However, if it is improperly performed, it may cause serious side effects.

Chinese herbal medicine: A pharmacological book used by the practitioners of TCM describes a number of medical substances mainly plants but even some animal products and minerals for treating diseases and promoting health. The different parts of the plants that are used include roots, leaves, flowers, seeds and stems. In Traditional Chinese Medicine in Northern Beaches , herbs are mostly combined in formulas and given as capsules, teas, granules, powders and liquid extracts.

Tai chi: It is a mind and body practice, which is centuries old. It involves very gentle dance-like movements of the body with mental focus, relaxation and breathing. Tai chi is safe.

If you are thinking about using Traditional Chinese Medicine in Northern Beaches:

  • Don’t use it as your reason to defer seeing a health care professional about any medical problem or to replace the effective conventional care.
  • Use Chinese herbal remedies under a health care provider’s supervision than trying to treat it yourself.
  • Ask about the experience and training of the TCM practitioner you will be using.
  • You must surely consult your health care professional if you’re pregnant or thinking of using it to treat your child.
  • Tell your health care professional about the complementary health approaches that you use. Allow them to have a complete idea about what you actually do for managing your health as this will help you to get a safe treatment.
