The Importance of Eye Protection as Part of A PPE Clothing Uniform
by Greg Rabada ppe clothingIf you work in the industrial sector, wearing adequate eye protection is vital in regards to ensuring your health and safety in the work place. But what makes eye protection such an important part of a reliable PPE clothing outfit and uniform?
When it comes to developing a PPE clothing uniform for your workers, particularly those workers in the industrial sector, it is vital that you provide your workers—or bring your own, if you are an employee—with suitable eye protection. There are a number of reasons for the importance of eye protection, which is why it is so important to not neglect your or your workers’ needs.
Eye care is an essential part of a person’s
PPE clothing, due to the vital role that it plays in protecting a worker’s eyes
from chemicals or flying debris that might damage the eyes and, potentially,
even leave the worker blinded or dead. In fact, with a whopping 70 percent of
all eye injuries being the result of sparks or flying objects (the majority of
which are said to be minute in size, but devastating in terms of their impact),
it is clear to see that having eye protection could have played a vital role in
regards to keeping workers safe.
It doesn’t take much to damage the eye, which is an incredibly fragile part of our bodies in and of itself. However, eye damage doesn’t only occur from flying debris; blunt impacts can also have a great impact on a person’s eye health.
Every worker has different eye and face shapes
and this means that—ideally—every worker should be provided with their very own
eye protection. Quality eye protection must be comfortable—in order to
discourage workers from taking them off prematurely—and should fit well,
without blocking the worker’s vision.
Ideally, in order to encourage your workers to wear their protective eye care glasses, you should try to order the best looking glasses that you can, while being mindful of the importance of not impacting on the functionality of the glasses. Quality eye care should be visually appealing as well, in order to stop workers feeling the need to remove them before they ought to. No one is expecting safety glasses to be fashionable, per se, however, they should always be as unobtrusive on the eyes as possible.
