by Kanan James NGO INDIA

The contemporary society of India is in the pinnacle of development both in terms of infrastructure and economy but despite every good that’s happening around us, the perils of poverty, gender inequality, vulnerability doesn’t seem to throw off their weights anytime. The most adversely affected are our children and that’s where NGOs in India take their stance to improve the quality of life for such children. How they do it is a matter of concern. Let us have look at the following pieces of information:

Functioning of NGOs

As per official surveys, there are over 32 lakhs NGOs in India. These are non-profitable and non-governmental organizations working with the primary mission to enhance humanity with a common objective of social upliftment. The people associated with NGOs are voluntary employees serving the greater good. There are differences in the way strategies are implemented or methods are used but the overall goal remains constant, possibly the best way(s) to solve the needs of people in the best mannerisms. These NGOs also run in partnership with various private firms, public firms, and government agencies. The children, adults and elderly members of the community have many needs which are fulfilled by these non-profitable organizations. As a result of their efforts, not only is the society more developed but status gaps are depreciated to a great extent.

Importance of NGOs in the lives of children and elderly

Children who are homeless do not have the resources for a proper medical treatment. They are assisted by voluntary donations made by individuals associated with NGOs for the betterment of their health. In India, there are laws against child labor and still, in many places, the practice, unfortunately, still exists. The NGOs acts as social organizations to leave no stones unturned and expose those who are associated with such ill-practices in accordance to save the afflicted from perishing to the situation. They make it a point to send every child in schools since education is the tool with which poverty is deemed to be eliminated. They save the lives of children engaged in laborious work and give them opportunities to get educated and make a living out of it.

NGOs in India also comes to great help during times of natural calamities like flood, fire, earthquake etc. It is the children who are the most affected in the given circumstances. In times of distress or emergencies, the right kind of tools, techniques, and resources are available with these organizations which helps them harness the children and to survive and develop. During natural disasters, children need adequate training for resisting any critical situation.

Many of the elderly parents today live on their own since their children live in far-off places to work and earn. NGOs also indulge in elder health care to such people who are left out on their own. They take care of these elderly people, provide them with the necessary medical attention they need and also give care to physically/mentally disabled during post-surgery recovery conditions. Senior citizens who prefer remaining in their homes are provided with health care services right inside their residences. They get a complete comfort, privacy, and independence as they desire.
