Five Generations of Honda Civic Type R

The Honda Civic Type R is the high-performance version of the Honda Civic which was first introduced in 1997 and is currently with five generations. It used a red Honda badge background with more sporty and adventurous looks and to differentiate it from other models.


First Generation EK9


The EK9 was only marketed in the Japanese Domestic Market and it features airbags, a titanium shift knob, a “Type R” badge, and red Recaro seats. It is fitted with a 1.6L B16B 4-cylinder with power and torque of 136kW (182hp), 160Nm (118lb-ft), and a 5-speed MT delivering a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph), an acceleration time of 6.7 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 15.3 seconds.


Second Generation EP3


The EP3 was released in the UK market in 2001. The JDM model has retained its highly known helical LSD, red Recaro bucket seats, and was fitted with a 2.0L K20A 4-cylinder with a power of 215PS (158kW). The EDM was equipped with a 2.0L K20A2 4-cylinder with a power of 200PS (147kW). It has a top speed of 146 mph and an acceleration time of 6.8 seconds (0.62 mph).


Third Generation FD2


The FD2 was introduced in 2007 with its sporty look and stylish exterior design. It features a large rear wing, rear bumper with a diffuser, and black and red bucket seats. It is also equipped with brake assist, vehicle stability assist, airbags, and  ABS. The FD2 has a 2.0L K20A 4-cylinder engine with power and torque of 165kW (222hp), 215Nm (159lb-ft), available in a 6-speed MT.

 

Fourth Generation FK2

 

The FK2 was produced in 2015 and offers high-class performance, dynamics, and comfort for the occupants. It has advanced features including hill start assist, rear-view parking camera, and cruise control system. It is powered by a 2.0L K20C1 turbocharged 4-cylinder with power and torque of 310PS (228kW), 400Nm (295lb-ft), with a 6-speed MT. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h (62mph) in 5.7 seconds with combined fuel consumption of 30.1/46.3 mpg and 38.7 mpg.



Fifth Generation FK8


The FK8 production starts in 2017 with a massive power boost, great performance, and offers a more comprehensive aerodynamic package. The FK8 is equipped with the same engine but the power has improved to 320PS (235kW), with an acceleration time of 5.3 seconds (0-60 mph) and a quarter-mile time of 13.7 seconds (107.8 mph).
