Lord Vishnu loved silk while Lord Shiva adorned cotton. It was Sage Markanda who passed on this art of weaving to his descendants – the Kanchi silk weavers, who weave the stunning Kanjivaram sarees today.

A Folklore Surrounding the Kanchipuram

It is said that two weaver clans – the Devangas and the Saligars - moved from neighboring states to Kanchipuram around 400 years ago. It was then that this place became famous. As time passed by, this place became famous for the exquisite Kanchipuram bridal sarees that they produce.
