The Famous Father-Son Business Duo

by Mona Singh Writer

It is very common for successive generations to enter their family business and take it to new heights. The biggest challenge for them is to build their position and trust, without being targeted for nepotism. It's a complicated thing for both father and son to be in the same line of business. While children may like to continue their family’s legacy, others want to build their own. The ones who do it competently and accomplish success should be invariably complemented.

Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda and his son, Mr. Neetish Sarda, become an  excellent example of bonding expertise in pushing the Sarda inheritance of entrepreneurship forward. Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda, the chairman of the Kolkata-based Sarda Group of Industries, is an important stakeholder in the jute and IT industry. His entire concentration and vigilance were directed towards reviving the jute industry. He transformed the loss-making jute industry in West Bengal into a profitable one. He also stepped into other industries after receiving immense recognition for his contribution in the jute business.

The Sarda Group of companies with over 70,000 employees in West Bengal made them the biggest employers of the state. Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda's concept of using jute due to its biodegradable characteristics was an initiative taken towards the protection of the environment. By delivering several health benefits to the employees and inaugurating a trust institution for needy people, he played a significant role in the public expansion towards the community.  Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda's Son, Mr. Neetish Sarda, on the other hand, is the founder of India's leading Managed Workspace Provider, Smartworks.

In the initial phase of his career, Mr. Neetish Sarda joined his father's business and worked with certain real estate corporations in the process. After working with a few corporations, he decided to step on his entrepreneurial journey. With his exposure to the workspaces with high employee energy, aesthetic design and employee-engaging work culture, he was encouraged to create workspaces of the future. His determination formulated his path, and he grabbed the opportunity to seize the market demand for managed office spaces.

Mr Ghanshyam Sarda and Mr Neetish Sarda’s vision has been of similar kind. They have worked not only towards growing their business, but also the world around them. Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda promoted the jute industry for it to become one of the largest export producers in India. He enhanced the value of the labourers by offering various training opportunities. Similarly, Mr. Ghanshyam Sarda's son also strived to upgrade the work atmosphere for employees by helping them accomplish work-life balance, vitality, satisfaction, and public engagement.
