The Ever-Changing Trends of Higher Education Abroad
The role played by leading international universities and institutes in throwing the Indian students into the future leaders is known to everyone. If we look closely at the data of last two decades, we would not be surprised to see that all the Indians known amongst the world leaders were foreign educated. Higher education in a popular university abroad has been a flowing trend since ages. Though the Indian Government has been putting in all the efforts and allocation more and more budget towards developing the standards of tertiary education in India, students are being constantly allured by foreign universities.
We are not saying that option for a foreign university is progressing as a lame trend, nor we are questioning the credibility of overseas education. The growth aspects and the opportunities that international universities and institutes can provide are tremendous. The is no doubt about the fact that a student studying in Yale University would be exposed to whole new world as compared to a student completing his or her degree from any nationally recognised Indian University. The efforts done by our Government since independence to enhance the standard of education in India have brought a lot of change but are still not adequate enough to meet the demands. The education system is India is as basic as cannot even fulfil the educational demands of one-fourth of Indian population.
The popularity of foreign education amongst Indian students is a well-known. However, the trend of international students has encountered changes over the years. In the beginning, anyone opting for study abroad primarily had very limited choices based in USA and Europe. American and European Universities have had the monopoly over rest of the world in terms of attracting international universities. And then came the era of rest of the world. A deep leap was taken by Australia in the international educational map about a decade ago. After getting noticed in somewhere around 1990, Australia soon became one of the most preferred international education destinations from Asians. It was trendy, close to home and full of choices.
Moreover, the trend changes were also seen for the course choices. There was a time when higher education in a university abroad was only restricted to law, engineering & medicine. And with emergence of countries like Australia, New Zealand and Singapore in the study abroad domain, non-familiar programmes also rose to fame steadily. Students could now see value in opting for vocational training. More and more students started enrolling for PR-related courses like cookery, hair dressing, fashion designing and community welfare. The trends of education are evolving and the future generations will experience much more changes.
