How to get the government to pay for your overseas education

by XL P. Educational Consultant

A lot of students dream of studying abroad, but it remains out of reach for many owing to the high costs associated with studying abroad. The tuition fees and the cost of living represent the majority of expenses for studying abroad. Even though the total cost varies vastly from country to country and even from city to city in those countries, per year cost of an MS program will generally fall around $35,000 while the figure for an MBA can be twice that. This poses a big problem for students wishing to study abroad.

Scholarships are the ideal solution for such a predicament. A scholarship may be offered to a student on the basis of merit or on the basis of their needs. A number of colleges also have an in-house scholarship program encouraging students to apply. The universities set a few benchmarks and eligible students are given financial aid.

Students are advised to plan well in advance to increase their chances of getting a scholarship to study abroad. A number of documents are to be readied in order to apply for a scholarship. A Statement of Purpose, Resume, Letter of Recommendation, test scores and visa application along with passport are necessary.

If the aforementioned options work out, the student could seek a scholarship through the countrys government. The Fulbright Program is the most popular scholarship program run by the US government. Fellowships are offered to graduates, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study and/or conduct research.

The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) is another prominent scholarship program. ILEP provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.

In many cases, the student is helped by the bilateral relations between their home country and the study abroad country of choice. For instance: India and Canada have a lot of agreements and partnerships in place which makes it easier for Indian students to pursue education in Canada.

At XL Pathfinders, our team has first-hand experience of all the nitty-gritties associated with studying abroad. We seek to simplify your path to getting a scholarship to study abroad so every student can achieve their dream of overseas education.
