Did you ever know that there was a time when festivals were celebrated almost each and every day which means that a complete span of 365 days was a celebration in India? It is the charm of the festival which always fill people with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. But with the onset of poverty that has eaten up the happiness of the country like a termite. Now celebrations have taken a back seat and people are just satisfied with simple meal that they get to eat. Festivals have changed its meaning for people nowadays a festival means a holiday where you get to sleep at 12 noon. Then you just lie down eat, drink and make merry. Well, people are not to be blamed for that after all they are so pressed with time that they hardly get the time to indulge themselves into any festivity. When the present day city life is juxtaposed against the life of the past you will invariably find many differences. A festival earlier meant getting up early in the morning and actively participating in cultural festivity.

Primarily, there are few important festivals which are celebrated with a lot of pomp and show. We have enlisted some of the popular festivals in India which has gained importance and has been celebrated in India with a lot of fun.

Holi

You will never see a country so filled with colors than during the festival of Holi. Splash of colors her and there and people getting together to spend time with each other. Holi celebrations start the night before where people gather together for Holika bonfire and do the religious rituals. It is a really carnival of color where everybody play, part, chase and color each other. Apart from the water fight, people love to dance to the music of the drums played there. Nowadays, you will seldom see people playing holi and will have strange excuses of being allergic to colors. Well, there is some truth behind these statements too.

Diwali

Another popular festival which also known as the festival of lights and is popularly celebrated as a victory of good over evil. People decorate their houses with lights and earthern diyas to make it look more beautiful. However, cleaning the house is also considered customary during the festival to honor the homecoming of goddess Lakshmi. Now, people prefer to stay at home and at the best they just perform the religious pujas and eating and don’t burst firecrackers with the concern of noise pollution.
