by Myron G. Internet Marketing Warrior

When you think about talent management and talent agents a great deal of questions form about how they differ from each other. We will take a look at both of these talent related positions and how the differ from each other.

Talent agents

Talent agents are they key of promoting and furthering your career. These agents are the ones making bookings, arranging castings and auditions and dealing with the clients on your behalf.

The main purpose of an agent is to find information about possible job opportunities, and castings and to ensure that you receive the brief and know what castings you should go to and where.  This takes up most of their time, as this When you do land the job the agent is also responsible for the contract in all of its aspects.

In general an agent gets anything from 10 to 15% of your fees in commission. This is a bit different than the fees the talent management person receives.

The talent manager

The manager is the person that plans and manages your career. This management can include;

1)    Planning your day to schedule and business deals.

2)    Suggesting or informing you what photos and other items you should use in your portfolio.

3)    Helping you to find an agent or agency that will do your bookings.

4)    Driving your career in a positive direction.

5)    Advise you on clothing, hairstyles and photographers.

6)    Talent management includes any aspect that you as artist can do to further your career, this includes; training, acting or modelling classes, a change in your look or industry and even replacing your entire portfolio or creating a new image altogether.

7)    The manager decides what jobs you should go for and which ones you should avoid in order to ensure that your career heads into the right path.

8)    They will inform you of every aspect on every contract you need to sign, how it will impact you and how it will benefit your career.

9)    Managing agencies will train you in personal safety and how you can ensure that you are safe on a shoot.

10) Talent management offers you the means to advance and improve your career and make the most out of it.

11) The manager will help you to prepare for castings and auditions by guiding you through the process.

Talent companies can work for anything up to 20% commission on your earnings, but the value they add to your career can sometimes be much more that that portion of your income.

Conclusion

The main difference between talent agents and management firms are the main functions they perform. The talent agent’s main goal is to ensure that you have all the information available to land jobs while the management company manages your career in totality.  Talent management are just as important as having an agent if you really want to make it in this industry.
