The development of broadcasting industry in Malawi by the government

by Joev Dixon USTC Inc

Malawians on their approach to work in the morning or eating dinner home at night will soon be battling with another and firmly dubious issue – which of the myriad TV and radio stations to pick.

TV broadcasting in Malawi

For quite a long time, Malawians have had minimal decision – and under the authority administration of previous president, Bingu wa Mutharika, there appeared to be minimal possibility of numerous new stations being permitted to show. In any case, as with such a variety of things in Malawi, Mutharika's demise has made ready for radical change. Amazingly, the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has recently granted not maybe a couple but rather fifteen new licenses for radio and TV broadcasting in Malawi to imminent supporters, who had connected for the licenses two years prior.

The different stations for license

The declaration of names of fruitful broadcasters comes scarcely a week after the Malawi Chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA-Malawi) composed to MACRA communicating worry on the postponements in conceding TV licenses.

Right now, Malawi got only one open and two religious TV slots yet these will soon be joined by the new supporters, including Times Television, a backup of The Times Group; Chancellor College Community; Zodiak Broadcasting Station; Timveni; Good News and Beta TV; Adventist.

A portion of the candidates that have been granted radio television licenses are Central African Presbyterian Synods of Blantyre, Nkhoma and Livingstonia; Chancellor College Community; Matindi; Mwandama and Bua FM. Those FM stations choose the best electronic product suppliers of Malawi as well.

Support from government of Malawi

The Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu, said that liberalization of the entire broadcasting industry was one of the less exposed objectives of the new Joyce Banda organization.

"It is a reasonable manifestation that government has set its need towards enabling Malawians through information technology learning. Government will guarantee that differences of views in the media are ensured. One method for doing this will be the granting of broadcasting licenses to free all stations of radio and TV broadcasting in Malawi" said Kunkuyu.

The minister further clarified that the imminent broadcasters are relied upon to roll within a year for TV and six months for radio. As an electronic supplier in Malawi, USTC aims to follow the Malawi government to make all possible efforts for teaching people on the licenses and broadcasting equipments for a safe future.

Remarking on this development, MISA-Malawi Chairperson, Anthony Kasunda, extolled the legislature for promoting freedom for media and media pluralism. He was quick to request that media houses reveal their administrations inside of the planned time to keep their licenses from being revoked – and to stretch that this advancement would make work for media experts.

Finally, Kasunda said "This improvement is the main milestone in the history of broadcasting industry in Malawi".
