The Cervical spine procedures provides stability to your spine

by Sunjay Kumar GO Health in india

The cervical spine is fabricated of the first seven vertebrae in the spine. It generally starts just beneath the skull and ends just above the thoracic spine. Moreover, it has a backward "C"-shape like the lumbar spine that is known as lordotic curve. The cervical spine is movable than both of the other spinal regions significantly.

The cervical spine is not stiff; the spine is very much more flexible than the other spines. Due to this property, there is also a risk of whiplash type injuries such as strong sudden movements. There is limited muscle support in the cervical region. The head weighs approximately around 12 to 15 pounds. It is balanced on top of the atlas bone at the tip of the spinal column. Also, sudden and strong head movements may harm the ligaments, bones and arteries that take blood to the brain.

Cervical spine procedures

•             Anterior Cervical Fusion

•             Cervical Corpectomy and Strut Graft

•             Cervical Fusion

•             Cervical Kyphosis

•             Cervical Laminectomy

•             Cervical Radiculopathy

•             Cervical Spinal Stenosis

•             Posterior Cervical Fusion

•             Rehabilitation of the Cervical Spine

The Anterior Cervical fusion is one of the most common methodologies used for the purpose of cervical Radiculopathy. This procedure mainly re-establishes the placement of the spine and maintains the position for the roots of the nerve to leave the spine. The procedure also confines the movement across the degenerated spine segment.

The spine is generally approached from the back of the neck in posterior cervical fusion. The incision is made of 1 to 2 inches along the midline of the neck. Along with that the major parts of the bone, the herniated disk are also removed that are constricting the nerve root. The procedure gives the chances of faster recovery and avoids spinal fusion.

Artificial disk replacement is also among the common cervical spine procedures. Disk replacement provides an alternative for a mechanical device for an intervertebral disk in the spine that is similar to other hip or knee joint replacements. The main advantage of the procedure is that it allows the motion to continue when the degenerated disk is isolated.

Along with the advantages, these cervical spinal procedures and surgeries may influence numerous risks that may vary from person to person. Difficulty breathing, Injury to the oesophagus, Misplaced, broken, loosened plates, screws, or implants, Soreness or difficulty with swallowing; Voice changes are some of the causes that affects the whole body.

The Cervical spine procedures facilitates to decompress the nerves and to maintain stability of the spine, and to provide correct placement of the spine.
