In today’s world of modernization and globalization, it is very difficult to assume a day without a car. Today each and every car is fitted with alloy wheels. It is very common to see silvered and stylish alloy wheels on even an average car. Also if by any means your alloy wheels are damaged, it is very easy to refurbish alloy wheels. You don’t have to buy new alloys. Refurbishment is much cheaper than buying a new one. Also if you select a good shop for the refurbishment of your alloy wheels then you might consider noticing that there isn’t any change in before and after condition of your wheel.

There are many reasons; the alloy wheels of your car could be damaged. For example – pot holes, rough terrain and kerbstones could be the main enemy of the alloy wheel rim. Cars fitted with the alloy rims have to suffer from this problem sooner or later. Alloy wheels are the attractive addition to any of the vehicle and also help in boosting the value of a car. But unfortunately, what happens is when your car’s allows are exposed to minor scratch or scuffs then it might lead to extensive alloy replacement.

However you can also put some efforts of your own to maintain the position of your car’s alloys. First of all you need to provide a jet wash to the wheels and in order to clean muck and grime from the wheel hub. Intrude with air blast to make it dry and place it on a workbench to begin with. Put some liquid on the alloy rim in order to reveal the dents and dings. To cover up the dents you can use orbital sander. Basically the problem occurs around the rim. Make sure that you properly use sander with different angles to fill the dents on the tips of the rim. To remove the paint you can use a grit paper. I think 80 grit paper would be fine enough to smooth the metal. This is a repetitive process and you have to smooth that area again by 180 grit paper this time. Then go on with 320 grit to smooth the 180 grit scratches. Finally rub the entire wheel with the red scotch and wipe it by a panel to remove the fine scratches left by 320 grit.

Now hold a primer at an angle of 45 degree and spray it in the wheel. This is also a repetitive process and you need to do it for almost four to five times. If you perform this step clearly you will notice a bright shine on the wheel. It will take an hour to dry approx. Now again you need to smooth the wheel area which has been primed. You can do it by using 400 grit and 600 grit paper. First do it with 400 grit and then with 600 grit in order to remove the 400 grit scratches. Now in order to remove the scratches made by 600 grit paper, you need to go over the entire wheel with a grey scotch and then clean it and remask it.

Now when you are done repairing your wheel you can spray the alloy wheel with the color of the coating it was having earlier too. Remember to put on minimum of three to four coatings. At last you need to spray the lacquer over the whole wheel. Do it slowly and if the wheel looks wet then it means everything is good else the volume of lacquer is not enough and try to put more sprays on it.

As discussed above you must have notices that it is not an easy approach to refurbish your alloy wheels by yourself. There are many companies out there in the market to maintain your alloy wheels. However it is very necessary that you choose a wise and trustable mechanic for the same. If you are residing in London, then you may opt for FA Wheels – wheel refurbishment UK
