The Blue Moon Hotel aims to provide you with cozy and comfortable lodgings while you revel in New York City’s vibrant and artsy contemporary culture.

Architect Julius Boekel originally built the Blue Moon Hotel as tenements in 1879. In 1930, then-mayor, Fiorello LaGuardia, imposed stricter building codes, and the landlords of the tenements—unable to pay the costs of renovations—forwent the tenants and shuttered the doors, resulting in a period of dormancy from 1930 to 2001. In 2001, ambitious artist Randy Settenbrino took ownership of the building to restore it as a boutique hotel. Settenbrino painstakingly salvaged the tenement's fixtures and artifacts and reintegrated them into what is today the award-winning Blue Moon Hotel.

The Blue Moon Hotel’s winter accommodations pay respect to the building’s rich history. The hotel’s 22 bedrooms come in both Queen and King-size bed options. Rooms also include rustic furniture, kitchenettes and utensils, mini refrigerators, full-length bathtubs and showers, and large TVs. Select rooms feature family areas and balconies with views of the New York City skyline.

The Blue Moon Hotel also provides a range of services. Each room comes with free premium Wi-Fi, air conditioning and heating, coffee and tea, eco-friendly shampoos and soaps, an iron and ironing board, and fresh linens and towels. They also offer a 24/7 snack bar and the Sweet Dreams Café. 24-hour check-in is available, as well as express check-in/check-out if you are in a hurry.

A capsule of Depression-era New York City, the Blue Moon Hotel is also home to a treasure trove of artifacts and memorabilia. During restoration, Settenbrino preserved a lot of the artifacts and memorabilia he found, using them as part of the hotel's decor. The walls, too, feature wood casings, pictures, collages, and murals that transport you back in time.

The Blue Moon Hotel is within walking distance of many iconic New York City neighborhoods, including South Street Seaport, Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, SoHo and the East Village. Also nearby are the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg bridges. The Blue Moon has been featured in numerous publications including the NY Times, LA Times, International Herald Tribune, Toronto Star, and Bloomberg. It has also received prestigious awards including “Best Boutique Hotel” by New York Magazine and “Best 100 Little Hotels” by Alan Sperry.

The Blue Moon Hotel’s owner, Randy Settenbrino said: “With gentrification, they take out everything. They ruin the facades. At the Blue Moon, I tried to get as close as I could to historic preservation while still keeping the place functional and modern.”
