Cross-country running can be a very challenging sport that can test the limits of stamina and mental strength. A cross country runner must be prepared with the right cross-training methods to ensure durability. By becoming more durable and flexible, the body avoids the greater risk of injury during a cross country meet. Various cross country meets vary in the terrain they take place. Some cross-country meets will be held on pavement tracks along trails in wooded areas and even hills.

Other cross-country needs may be held on completely on developed terrains such as loose gravel trails and sand packed walkways. Most cross-country runners do use a variety of training methods depending on their event and physique. Some cross-country runners will look at the conditions on the road and determine whether having quicker feet or stronger legs is more important. Conditions become a key factor in courses that are known to be muddier than others or very dry sand that cause the legs to require more flexibility training.

In courses that are in sandy areas, the feet lose traction causing a loss in inertial strength in the hips. It is important to have a consistent pace and train for quicker footing so not to lose a step. Stronger and deeper strides are required for muddy courses. There also is the opportunity for a cross country runner to participate in the event during rainy conditions. Keegan Duffy Minnesota has participated in various cross-country events since his days in high school. He enjoys taking the time to participate in the beautiful courses in Minnesota.
