The Advantages of CNC Swiss Screw Machines
CNC Swiss Lathes have the ability to keep and maintain very quick cycle times while still keeping the flexibility that makes them extremely useful when it comes to obtaining precision and running high-production applications. More tools and greater options are continuously becoming available. However, Swiss screw machines tend to be preferred when needing to run parts that are longer and slender turn or smaller and highly complex. These machines can even operate pieces that do not need to be turned at all. Swiss screw machines are continuously becoming valuable, and here’s why you should consider a Swiss screw machine.
The bar on these machines emerges into the actual tooling area through what is known as a guide bushing. The guide bushing locates the bar during the machining process. The headstock on these CNC screw machines is able to move back and forth and in the z-direction very precisely while taking the bar along with it. The turning tools are carried on what are known as gang slides and bring the bar close to the guide bushing. The motion of the bar provides feed for the cutting action to take place. Gang slides can carry holders for fixed single point, or other tools can be used in order to support live-tooling. There are a number of machines that contain a secondary spindle back and a working tool station. There are times that one or more turrets are able to carry even more tools.
The workpiece is supported by the guide bushing so that precision is maintained throughout the workpiece on the machine. Any time that a physical object is subjected to any amount of force, that object is going to deflect. When you are using a conventional lathe, the cutting force can cause a deflection that is too great and this can cause the accuracy of the cuts to deteriorate. However, when the workpiece is held securely in place one end, then pushed sideways on the end that is unsupported, it allows the workpiece to bend a little. If you use the same amount of force on a workpiece that is longer, it is going to bend more.
Swiss turning allows complex, slender, precise and small components to be made. This can be done because of the unique designed contained by these machines. In this type of turning machine, the barstock material is actually gripped tightly and then advanced by the headstock thought the guide bushing. The machining section of these machines consists of tools that are stationary and are applied to the bar stock. Minimum deflection occurs because only a part of the bar (the part to be machined) is going to be exposed from the guide bushing. This allows parts that are small, precise and accurate to be turned.
