Perhaps you believe that there is a strong connection between science and religion, and that science is not merely an academic subject. For you, science is an expression of the deeper appreciation of God’s majesty and power. It allows you to learn more about what you see as the wonders of God’s creation.  Click here to learn more Christian science textbooks for your children.

Creationism was taught in schools in the United States until the late 19th century. After the Scopes trial in 1925, evolution gained popularity. In the 1950s, it was commonly believed that the U.S. was falling behind in science in comparison to other countries. By the 1960s, evolution became widely taught in public schools. Today, creationist science is only taught in a handful of U.S. states, where students are encouraged to critically analyze evolutionary theory and teachers have the academic freedom to discuss scientific evidence critical of evolution and Darwin’s theory.

If you home school your children, you have the freedom to incorporate creationist science studies into their academic curriculum. There are Christian science textbooks you could use to teach your children at elementary, junior high and high school levels to supplement what their education, whether you teach them at home or they attend public school, where your children’s exposure to creationist science is likely kept minimal. In the context of history, science is presented in the seven days of creation. There are supplemental experiments or activities in each lesson to demonstrate scientific truths. There are history lessons where the focus is placed upon important scientists and their contributions to our scientific understanding, instead of over facts and figures.

By learning creationist science in a historical context, students will learn how science is a process where knowledge always evolves because one person’s work is constantly improved upon by another person. Because of this, scientists and their findings are often proven wrong and corrected over time. While the work of the initial researchers and scientists is important, you cannot accept results as truth without understanding that there are a lot of errors and false conclusions that scientists encounter before they reach the truth. Despite popular beliefs that the majority of scientists are not religious, you will learn that devout people are drawn to science to learn more about God. Using Christian faith, some scientists study the world and believe that modern science is a result of God wanting you to engage in research as an act of worship so that you can better understand the depth of God’s work. A creation student will learn about scientific concepts in Christian science textbooks so that the lessons are covered and studied.

If you feel limited because of the lack of homeschool offerings in science or availability of the creation curriculum in your children’s public school, you can teach creationist science to balance the academic courses, particularly in science and history. Your children will get another perspective and viewpoint, and be encouraged to evaluate and question the evolutionary theory that is taught so prevalently. Consider this either a supplement or an alternative. The ultimate goal is in helping future generations become critical thinkers who seek the truth.
