Recycling is an important matter. Knowing that the world population is constantly growing and each person adds significant amount of waste to the planet in their entire lifetime.

Each of the parents is worried sick in the matters of how the planet is becoming a hub of pollution, thanks to the waste. They are always looking for ways to help make the world a better place to live in for their children.

Seldom knows that if you start early with the pollution control by means of recycling, it would make a lot of difference in years to come. Here’s how you can take control and ensure a healthier planet for future generations:

·         Litter in public places

Take your child to a park or a beach and point out the trash to them. Explain how it can affect any wildlife and is a serious matter that we should be concerned about. Don’t forget to bring gloves and some bags to clean up the garbage.

·         Recycling bins

Sorting out and decorating recycling bins sounds like an interactive activity for children. You can even make it look like a fun game. Ask them to draw, or collect from the internet, pictures of the waste that should go in each bin and then paste each on one 1 bin particularly for the kind of garbage that should go in. Step out in the neighborhood and tell them to place the garbage in the respective bins. Explaining the importance of the categorized bins can really help the children to understand the idea behind the fun game. Call it a ‘Recycling Relay’. The more sorted recyclables are, the better it will be to easily process them later.

·         Bedtime stories & movies on saving the planet

Wall.E and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax are classics that greatly influence the topic of environmentalism. There are also various other books out there in the market that are fun reads. With technological innovation at its peak, there are several apps for smartphones and tablets on saving the planet. Get these educational apps for kids today so that they can be responsible human beings in times to come.

·         Exploring the house

Kitchen may sound like the only place where recyclables can be found in a typical house but there are other things lying all around the house, inside the rooms that can be recycled. Donate old toys to charities and stuffed animals in a bedroom can also be recycled or given away. Instead of piling up garbage, it’s better to re-use whatever you can.

Saving the planet is important and to do so you need to keep it green and captivating. If they know their responsibility and role in saving the earth at an early age like this, say an elementary school child, the better they will preserve later. Pool in their ideas too and make it an interactively fun activity. Together, all of us can save the earth!
