Taj complex was the dream of Emperor Shah Jahan. He commissioned the monument as a tribute to his fourth wife Mumtaj Mahal for whom his love was endless. She died while giving birth to their fourteenth child. Shah Jahan’s love for his wife was so pure, even in his days of downfall when his own son Aurangzeb captured and pensioned him, he spent each passing days by gazing at the beauty of Taj Mahal. Aurangzeb kept Shah Jahan in a prison of Agra fort from where he could see the imposing view of Taj Mahal clearly.
The enchanting white marble building
of Taj Complex, the mausoleum where the cenotaphs of Mumtaj Mahal and Shah
Jahan are placed beside each other, changes the color with every quarter of the
day. During sunrise and sunset when soft sun rays touch the surface of white
marble beauty the spectra of glowing orange color reflects back. In the noon
time Taj casts orange pinkish radiance. But real pleasure of viewing Taj Mahal
is in Moonlit nights when white marble creates silver glow effect and personify
the presence of divinity.
