Any damage to nerves which results in dysfunction of nervous system causes neuropathic pain. Due to damaged nerves, pain signals are sent to the brain. This disorder is common among older. However, this disease can occur in persons of all ages. Our body consists of different types of nerves which when damaged cause different symptoms. Damage to sensory nerves (which control senses) causes pain, weakness or numbness in the feet and hands. Motor nerves are responsible for movement and power, damage to these nerves causes weakness in peripherals. Blood pressure and heart rate is affected when autonomic nerves are damaged.

5.    A person may be unable to sense changes in cold and heat.

6.    There is a loss of co-ordination.

7.    Lancing, burning, stabbing or shooting pain which gets worst at night.   

8.    Foot and leg ulcers which may heal very slowly or never heal.

9.    Muscle weakness, wasting, twitching, cramps and paralysis.

10.  Sudden changes in blood pressure may result in dizziness and fainting.

11.  Symptoms of this disease also include racing heart, reduced sweating and  heat intolerance.

12.  It also causes problems in achieving and maintaining an erection.

4.   Toxic substances like insecticides can also cause damage to nerves.

5.   Neuropathy is common in those who are suffering from cancer.

6.   Nerves can be also damaged due to excessive consumption of alcohol.

7.  Chronic kidney and liver diseases, injuries, infections, connective tissue diseases and hereditary are another factors causing nerve damages.
