First, you need to prepare sushi rice. Pour two cups of rice into a strainer. Run water and rinse rice thoroughly. Now place rice into a large boiling pot. And, fill with water and strained rice. Make sure that the water completely covers the rice. Soak rice for twenty minutes. After twenty minutes, drain the water from the pot. Again put the rice into the strainer. Rinse the pot and run cold water over the strainer and rinse rice thoroughly until water runs clear. Now, place the rice once again into the boiling pot. Next, take 2 ¼ cups of cold water and place water into the boiling pot along with the rice. Heat the water and boil the rice. As soon as boiling starts, reduce heat to simmer and cover the pot and leave it for twenty minutes.
While the rice is being cooked, take two teaspoons of salt, ¼ cup of sugar and ½ cup of white rice vinegar and place them all into a separate boiling pot. Let the salt and sugar dissolve in the white rice vinegar. Now put the seaweed into the pot. Heat these components n medium heat for two minutes until seaweed becomes tender. Once components are ready, remove the pot from heat and keep it aside.
There should be no or little water in the rice after cooking them for twenty minutes. Remove the pot from heat and leave it for twenty minutes. Once rice is cooled, remove them from the boiling pot and put inside a large bowl. Remove the seaweed from the vinegar, salt and sugar mixture and keep it aside. Pour this mixture over the rice. Mix all the components well using a large spoon. Now you start assembling the sushi.
Once rice is ready, you can start cutting the fish. Most basic sushi recipes call for saltwater fish such as tuna or salmon. For this particular recipe, raw blue fin tuna is the ideal choice. Cut thin slices of tuna. Make sure that the slices are no larger than two inches long and ¼ of an inch when it comes to thickness. Take wasabi and place a small amount into center of tuna piece. If you want, add a small amount of seaweed on wasabi’s top. However, remember that it is optional.
Next, take a spoonful of sushi rice and fill the tuna with it. Shape the tuna and rice so that rice does not fall. Do not be afraid while pressing the rice into the tuna. If you want you can wrap the tuna slice around the rice. This is when you can make the most of the Yomo Sushi Maker. It is a machine for preparing sushi rolls.
