This article represents a combination of 3 of my 5 loves. The first 2 is God and my Earthly family. That of Music, Marketing which is my strength and People make up the rest of the entire group. I have been able to incorporate the latter three in this article.

There are several products on the Internet that address these 3 issues (People, Music & Marketing). Everyone sees themselves as an authority or guru of sorts on these subjects. The only thing left is for you to sift through the maze of phoneys offers in the effort of finding the one that truly address your needs. Bear in mind that the opinion of the general public might differ from yours and your requirement my be totally different as well.

What am I goin on about? Have I lost you?

I am simply drawing parallels between life and marketing. Let me explain. If you read the article with an open mind, you will see the similarities that exist.

Marketing is a very important element in any equationIt can make or break a business. The parallel in human relationship I suppose is love.

In Music the first question that must be addressed is ' is this the right market? ' Once this is established comes an entire slew of questions

The important factors are ;

1. Is the lyrics hitting (are they relevant)
2. Is the music entertaining?
3. Is the artist appeal there?
4. Would this song be playable on the radio (i.e does it fit in with others being played? and I am not referring to Mastering but to lyrical content)

The relationship parallel here is simply compatibility.

They are two obvious approaches to marketing music. Two directions are available.

1. SATISFYING YOUR CHOSEN MARKET and
2. BUILD TO SATISFY A MARKET.

It might sound complicated but I assure you, it isn't. You either create to satisfy a demand or adjust to meet a demand. This is the integral part of NICHE Marketing and why it can be successful. You basically run that market much like a ' marriage '.

The principle of Demand and Supply in action is evident here (just like in a human relationship). This is an integral part of any effective marketing plan.

Getting back to the topic of this article. What is important are the basics AS IT PERTAINS TO THIS ARTICLE.

1. Production of product (establishing a secure bond between parties)
2. Product Protection (nurturing good relationships)
3. Effective Submission practices (quality content is paramount. It grabs and hold your attention)
4. Marketing of self and Product (this equates to always being well dressed or always dress appropriately)
5. Niche Marketing (finding & establishing it and commonly referred to as ' GET IN WHERE YOU FIT IN '.

All there areas and more are addressed by visiting http://monopolymediamarketing.com/other-links/. I have found it both informative and entertaining from an artist and label prospective.

Many things that plague an indie artist is proper airplay and having the respect of their peers. With the blossoming of the Internet, effective , common sense marketing is important.  This article was written to stimulate the imagination in showing that the marketing process is quite similar to everyday living and relationships. It has it intricacies but deep down it can be rather simple if the steps are follow in order. Just like life or anything else.

Next time you are faced with an important decision related to your position concerning music or marketing just ponder awhile. Think about what you would do under different circumstances. Weigh the consequences, the outcome and then decide (go for it).

Remember Faith and Fear cannot coexist!

Being able to compete with 'big brother' is very important. If you don't keep up in a race , you get left behind. The books available on this site are written in an attempt for you to 'keep up' and forge ahead by knowing the ins and outs. Happy reading!!!

Nobody has all the answers but knowing the rules sure does help. The music business can be a very cut-throat one. If you approach it as such and don't judge and accept everything 'verbatim' then you are on your way. Being shrewd and knowledgeable is key. Life can be simple like music marketing. Don't complicate it.
