Remember the horror that we felt as kids, whenever we heard the word ‘Exams’. Time has passed, but the horror students attached with exams is still the same. Different students have different potential, which make the unique. Some people are born with exceptional learning capabilities, while others can develop this quality if they pursue it consistently. Many students work hard to get good marks in exams, but some of them succeed, while others fail.  The students are taught by same teachers, have read the same books, but still they get different results. The reason behind this is their approach to manage their time. If you check with the toppers, you will find that the techniques followed by them are similar to one another. All good students know the art of managing their time well. This post will help in finding the answer to the big question that is ‘How to perform better in examinations’. The following part has some efficient tips, if followed religiously can fetch good results for students who are striving hard to achieve good marks in their examinations.

a.     Prepare a Timetable- The first step is to work on your study schedule and stick to it. You need to give enough time to your studies and this can be done by preparing a time-table. Working out a schedule is not enough, but you have to stick to it. Write down how many exams you have to take and how much time is required to study each subject.

b.     Take breaks in between- It is important to plan your schedule before starting studying for the exams, but a good timetable is the one, which has a good combination of study and break time. Studying continuously for long hours is not a good option at all; rather you should take a small break of five to ten minutes after every hour to refresh your mind. You can go for a walk or listen to some good music to soothe your mind, or you can simply sit still and close your eyes for five minutes to calm your body and mind.

c.     Arrange your study space- The surroundings play a very important role while studying. Remove all the distractions that have the ability to divert your attention from studies and organize your study area in a way that only the relevant things will be placed there. A clean table with arranged books and notes is a treat to eyes and boosts the focus, while a messy and disorganized space makes a person lazy and reduces the concentration power of the students.

d.     Create visuals to remember better- Visual and diagrams help while revising the lessons. Once you are done with a chapter, try and make diagrams, flowcharts and other visual aids that can be used while revising the chapter. While revising, you cannot read the entire chapter again, therefore making visual and diagrammatic notes will be helpful for the last minute revision.

e.     Eat at regular intervals- Starving yourself while studying for exams is not a good idea, rather you should keep a box on your table and eat something while studying. During exam times, try and avoid junk food as it slows the body processes. Include fresh fruit, vegetable salads and healthy foods are advised.  You can keep a box of nuts and eat them while studying. Give your body the required fuel by offering nutritious food.

f.      Take a lot of fluids- Eating healthy alone will not do any good, but drink a lot of fluids. Water is the best option, but you can go for fresh juices and other health drinks. Avoid taking too much caffeine as it makes you lethargic. When you feel tired instead of grabbing a cup of tea or coffee, drink a cup of green tea. Green tea has anti-oxidants, which instantly refreshes the mood. You can experiment with green tea as flavored green tea is available in the market that tastes better and is healthy for mind and body as well.

g.     Study in groups- Group studies is a good way to prepare for exams. Choose sincere students and plan the group studies that will help all the people in that group. Studying in a group is a good way to clear most of the doubts. But not everyone, who agrees to be a part of the group, is sincere and some students join these groups for fun. They not only waste their time, but do not let others study; therefore such students should not be included at all. They may be your friends, but during exams you have to be sincere towards your studies. You can encourage your friends to study, but if they do not take exams seriously, then you should leave them and focus on your studies.

School and college will get over, but life never stops taking exams and to be prepared for such exams, a person has to be organized and clear in mind.
