Strategies for healthy snacking

by Giani Joseph Nutritionist

Whether you are a student attending a long string of back-to-back lectures or even exams, working in a corporate office or working from home, whatever the case, we all are bound by a common craving – snacks. Snacking every now and then helps in two ways: 1) helping you focus better and 2) curbing hunger.

Snacking on small bites every now and then also helps in maintaining weight. But this really depends on the snack item. To get on with some healthy snacks shopping, keep the following strategies in mind.

Include dry fruits in your carts

As kids, your parents probably told you that you should chew your food slowly and thoroughly. Although this helps in better digestion, if the item does not have much nutritional value, then it might backfire and not help you keep focus. Dry fruits are a good snack item as they are filling and have nutritional value and hence one should include dry fruits such as almonds, cashew nuts, walnuts, and pistachios their grocery shoppingcarts.

Snacking on citrus fruits

Another strategy to get healthy snacks delivery right is to include citrus fruits, such as oranges, limes, and lemons. These are a very good source of Vitamin C, which is helpful in the smooth functioning of the immune. A strong immune system goes a long way to help battle those long hours at the office.

Get Protein-ated items

For a lot of us, grocery shopping in India cannot do without eggs, a go-to protein powerhouse. The reason is that these are very quick and easy to prepare, especially boiled eggs. In addition, boiled eggs are portable and durable.

As an alternative, you can also snack on protein bars.

Dark Chocolates

Including dark chocolates as part of your daily munchies is a very good way for healthy snacking. Its high magnesium content helps in relieving you from stress, which is helpful in battling exam pressure and hectic workloads. With the internet changing the food ordering game, get a handful of dark chocolate bars with instant grocery delivery and bid goodbyes to stress.

Mix and Match

Snacks are also useful in filling nutritional gaps. A good way to achieve this is through mixing and matching food items. For instance, celery with peanut butter or yogurt with fruits.

Mixing it up will give you the required dose of vitamins and minerals. In addition, these combinations are low in calories and high on fiber.

The above are useful strategies for healthy snacking and with WhatsApp becoming the prime medium for communication, it is now possible to order snacks through WhatsApp grocery shopping.
