Steps to Reset Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

Are you unable to use the brand new Edge Web browser in Windows 10? If yes, then it is suggested to reset Microsoft Edge. Apply the below given steps to reset  Microsoft Edge browser.

Microsoft Edge Soft Reset

It is highly recommended to apply soft reset of Microsoft Edge before trying all nuclear and hard reset.

Step 1: Open Edge à click or tap on the three-dots present at the top right corner àfrom the context menu select Settings.


Step 2: Scroll down and select the "clear browsing data" button and click on the "choose what to clear" button underneath it.


Step 3: This will opens the options to clear browsing data, under this you will find the common data such as the browsing history or cookies.


Step 4: After it, click on the "show more" link present under that first selection to display additional options on the window.


Step 5: This will open five other data sets that you can clear.

  1. Media licenses
  2. Pop-up exceptions
  3. Location permissions
  4. Full screen permissions
  5. Compatibility permissions.

All of these are related to the sites or media that you have accessed in the browser.


Step 6: After the selection process, hit on the clear button to start the removal process.

 

 

 

How to Fix Microsoft Edge

Step 1: Close the Microsoft Edge.

Step 2: After it, open File Explorer and type the below given path into the address: C:\Users\UseYourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages and hit Enter.

Note: Replace "UseYourUsername" with your user account name.


Step 3: After it, choose and delete the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder. If you get an error like "Folder Access Denied" prompt, simply click Continue.


Step 4: In case of getting error message, delete the most of the content present inside the folder. Right-click on the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbweà  select Properties àremove the check from the Read-only option à click on Apply and OK.


Step 5: After it, delete all the content.

Step 6: Reboot your computer.

Step 7: Now, you have to re-register Microsoft Edge in your account. Open the Start meneàGo to the search box and search for Windows PowerShell. Choose PowerShell from the result and choose Run as administrator.

Step 8: Type the below given command and press Enter:

cd C:\Users\UseYourUsername.

Note: Replace "UseYourUsername" with your user account name.

Step 9: Again, type the below given command and hit Enter key:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose}

Step 10: That's it, restart your computer/Laptop and then you should be able to use Microsoft Edge without any problem or error.
