Steps to Follow if You Have Suspected/Confirmed Coronavirus
by Dynamix Group WriterCOVID-19
has been spreading like wildfire and with no vaccine yet to tackle the disease,
the number of cases across the globe has been on the rise. People with COVID-19
usually show mild to severe symptoms which often begin with fever, cough, and
shortness of breath. Some people also have other symptoms such as muscle pain,
chills, sore throat, or loss of taste and smell. There are also asymptomatic
cases that do not show any symptoms but are still affected by the disease. The
symptoms usually begin to show after 2-14 days of a person contracting the
virus.
If
you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or suspected to have COVID-19, following are
the steps you must take to prevent the disease from spreading further in your
family or community:
Stay
home and move out only when medical care is required:
Outside
activities must be restricted at all costs, unless it’s for seeking medical
care that can’t be tackled via virtual consultation. Do not visit schools; go
to work or public areas. Stay isolated while at home and keep all the necessary
medical supplies such as doctor thermometer, steamer, etc. at a
close distance in your room. You can order these supplies online through
platforms such as Smart Medical Buyer who deliver these to your doorstep. When going out for an emergency purpose, do
not use public transportation. Restrict contact with animals and others at your
home.
Call
ahead before visiting your doctor:
If
you have an appointment to attend, make sure to inform your healthcare provider
about your status of COVID-19. This will help the staff to take the necessary
steps required to keep other people safe. They will also make it a point to use
disposable ECG electrodes and other such items to prevent the
spread of the disease. If you have to cough, cover your nose and mouth
with a tissue paper and dispose the used tissue off immediately in a trash can.
If there’s no tissue available, cough under your arm and wash the clothes as
soon as possible.
Wear
a face covering and clean your hands often:
Wearing
a face mask is important when in public or at home with people. If it causes
you breathing trouble, make sure there’s no one around you so that you can put
your face covering off. Frequently wash your hands using soap and water for at
least 20 seconds. Keep an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you all the time.
Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid
sharing things and disinfect high-touch surfaces:
Do
not share utensils, towels, or bedding with other people or pets in your home.
Wash them thoroughly after you use them or use single-use disposable items if
possible. Make it a point to clean and disinfect all the frequently touched
surfaces such as tabletops, counters, doorknobs, toilets, phones, bathroom
fixtures, and keyboard, etc. Use a household cleaning spray or sanitizer for
the same.
Monitor
your symptoms:
Seek
prompt medical care if your symptoms worsen or you have difficulty breathing.
Put on a face mask and carry a hand sanitizer while visiting a medical
facility. Avoid close contact with people in the waiting room. Keep all the
necessary medications and medical equipment handy.
Home
isolation may be discontinued if 13 days have passed since the symptoms first
appeared or they were suspected and the symptoms have either subsided or there
was no subsequent illness.
