Steps to fix Microsoft Office 2010 Error 2908

When you try to fix MS Office 2010 and you are already halfway through the installation, you may receive Error 2908. Error 2908 persists during the MS Office 2010 installation due to damage or corrupt registry, outdated drivers, missing Trusted Installer file, and outdated version of Microsoft .Net Framework etc.

The error stops the installation and doesn’t let you begin with it again unless you resolve it. So, here are the simply workarounds which will let you resolve the error 2908 and reinstall the MS office 2010 smoothly.

Step 1

Ensure that no Microsoft Office application viz. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc. is running formerly you perform all the steps.

Go to the Command Prompt from the Start menu> All Programs> Accessories. If you are using the Windows 7, Go to the Start button> enter cmd in the Start Search bar> right-click on Cmd.exe and click on Run as administrator. In Command Prompt window, Go to type Scanreg /Fix and click on Enter. When the command is finished running, it will encourage you to reboot your device. If you are not encouraged, then also reboot your device.

Step 2

Uninstall and then reinstall the latest version of Microsoft .Net Framework. Go to the option of Add or Remove Programs or Softwares in the Control Panel> Start button. For Windows 7, Go to the Start button> type programs and features> click Programs and Features> Uninstall a program.

Step 3

Disable your firewall/antivirus software and then restart the installation. The firewall or antivirus software considers TrustedInstaller.exe as a malicious file and thus removes it from your computer. The missing TrustedInstalled.exe file causes the error 2908 during the installation of Microsoft Office 2010.

Step 4

You can begin the installation if the issue persists, you may need to restart the TrustedInstalled service. Open Command Prompt again and type net start trustedinstaller and click on Enter. If this is not recognized as a valid command, then enter net start Windows Modules Installer and click on Enter. Restart your PC only if encouraged, otherwise don’t Start the Microsoft Office 2010 installation again and it should finish smoothly.

Step 5

If the issue persists, repair the Microsoft .Net Framework. Go to Add or Remove Softwares (Programs and Features in Windows 7) in Control Panel, click on Microsoft .Net Framework> click Repair/Change> click on Repair. Follow the on-screen instructions and repair the software. Restart the device if it is encouraged.

Step 6

Update all the device drivers from their respective producers’ websites. Disable unnecessary softwares and services running at the start up. To disable the services, Click on Windows + R keys together to bring up the Run window. Enter msconfig in the Open box and click on OK button. In the System Configuration window, Go to the Services tab and disable the services and software which you need not run at the start-up. Save changes and restart your device.
