by Carol Gilbertus Manager
Epoxy floor coating can provide your garage a complete new look when done the right way. The epoxy garage floor coating will require hard work and is not that easy, but the DIY epoxy floor coating kit will help you out to do it conveniently. Following the steps below will make your work even easier.

Cleaning and preparation

If you wish a good epoxy finish you need to start with good preparation before using the DIY epoxy garage floor coating kit. You would probably need a high pressure washer and a concrete grinder. With high pressure washer you can wash off the floor clean and with the concrete grind you will remove the top layer of the cement which is very important to remove.

Final preparation

Once the top layer of cement has been removed the floor should be given a very clean sweep out or washed off thoroughly so as to remove all the dust and residue. Remember, cleaner the floor, better the results of epoxy garage floor coating.

Mixing

When you use the DIY garage floor coating, you need to mix the resin part and the hardener in proper ratio or else the results will not be as expected. Normally the Resin is to Hardener ration is 3:1 but it might differ in different DIY epoxy garage floor coating kits.

Primer Coating

Once you have mixed the ingredients of the kit don’t wait much, start the primer coating from the corners or from where you want to start the floor coating with the use of a good brush. The primer coating should be so thin that it is absorbed by the concrete floor.

Cracks Filling

Once your primer dries out you need to check out for any cracks or any imperfections which may occur overnight. Also you need to remove any kind of dust or insects, bugs etc which might stick to the primer coating. A trowel scrapper can be used for this purpose.

Blow Out

Finally blow out every dust particle or anything else by sweeping out the floor thoroughly. There will always be some residue left after cleaning so do it twice or thrice to be sure the finishing is perfect.

Final Coat

You have to mix the final coating in the similar way you mixed primer just that you don’t need to add any solvent. Now as soon as you make the mixture, you can start rolling. This coat will now be much thicker than the previous one.

You keep the roller fully loaded so as to keep the roller full as yu are rolling. The epoxy has a property of leveling by itself but if you help it level and roll over the floor twice, you will certainly get a better finish.

Take care of the edges as you roll on. Make sure that each part of the floor is rolled over twice so that any missed bits or puddles aren’t there on the floor.

Curing

The very next day your floor is ready to be walked upon but you should not drive car over it until few days, so that it sets much better.
That’s all you have to do for a great epoxy garage floor coating which remains intact for years to come.
