Steps Taken in User Interface Design.

by Gemmaeca Harris Mobile Application

Designing the interface of a mobile application is one of the fun tasks in the whole process of developing an application. Of course, it is not that easy but there is some fun since the designer gets to work with various layouts and colors to create a beautiful and easy to use end product. Click here for more information.

At the initial stage of this designing process, the designer will be required to do research of other apps that perform the same function or nearly the same function to the application he or she is working with. This is done in order to know what is most popular at that particular time. The customers’ reviews are also considered in order to know what expectations they have that have not been satisfied by the current mobile applications that they are using. After the research, the designer will then draw a flowchart to show how the system of the mobile application will work.

The next step after this would be to create a mockup application which will give the idea of the final product. The mockup will not be as detailed as the final application itself but it will be simple and contain some of the most important things such as the layout and other features that the designer plans to include. This is what should be shown to the client to get his or her approval before moving on to creating the application fully.

After the mockup has been created and approved by the client, then the elements that have been included in the mockup are to be standardized. A lot of work is involved here. What exactly is done in this standardizing process? In this process, various elements that have been included are shaped and sized and colored according to the client’s preference or according to the designer’s preference if he has been accorded the opportunity to choose the color scheme. These elements may include the icons that will be used, menu, alert, pop up and photos among other elements. The designer also gets to choose the font and the size of the font that will be used on the whole application or on particular pages. This stage is where all the artwork is done.

Once this is all done, you will be closer to the finishing line on your design. After standardizing the elements in the mockup, you will need to create a version of your app that can be tested by others in order to know whether they will like it or whether there are things you will need to include in order to cater to their needs or if there is something they wish you could do differently. As you create this dummy version of the application, you will need to show interactions between the elements and the screen. This is where you can include animations for various actions. After this, there will be very few steps remaining before completion of the design process and they include styling and documentation.
