What a great way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the "Star Trek" series with a thrilling new "Trek" adventure. "Stream Star Trek Beyond" the third film in the J.J. Abrams' rebooted "Star Trek" franchise is not as good as the first two but it has intense action sequences, terrific bickering between Mr. Spock and Bones and a new female character who is a total bad-ass. Taking over for Abrams in the director's chair is "Fast and Furious" veteran Justin Lin who has a knack for making things really messy.

Lin and screenwriters Simon Pegg and Doug Jung have delivered a fast and more zippier "Watch Star Trek Beyond online" movie than I was expecting. The movie also honors the original "Star Trek" cast in a photo at the end and dedicates the memories of two of it's stars, the original Mr. Spock himself Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin who died in a tragic car accident last month. I was never a fan of the series but there are two "Star Trek" films I did love, the 2009 reboot and "Star Trek: First Contact" which featured "The Next Generation" cast.

The plot revolves around the crew of the USS Enterprise led by Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) as they land on a snowglobe-like Starbase known as Yorktown. A lot has changed since the events of "Star Trek Into Darkness", we learn that Sulu (John Cho) is gay, Uhara (Zoe Saldana) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) decided to end their relationship, Kirk has been given a promotion to Vice Admiral and plans to name Spock as the new captain of the Enterprise and the elderly Spock (Nimoy) has passed away.

Soon, the Enterprise gets sent to a rescue mission where a lonely survivor named Kalara (Lydia Wilson) claims that her ship and crew were taken by a massive bee swarm of ships. Kirk and his crew later get into an ambush by the same ships that swarmed Kalara and they rip apart the Enterprise piece by piece. The Enterprise crew has no choice but to abandon ship but most of the crew get captured by the scaly-like aliens led by the ruthless Krall (Idris Elba).

Kirk and Chekov (Yelchin) land on Krall's planet safely but they are separated from the crew and their friends. McCoy (Karl Urban) and a seriously wounded Spock want to find their friends as well but Spock intends to leave Starfleet where he hopes to continue on with his elderly counterpart's work. Meanwhile, Uhara, Sulu and several surviving crew members are held captive by Krall who wants to find an alien artifact known as Abronath which Kirk possesses.

He wants the Abronath for a device he plans to use to attack Yorktown and wipeout it's civilian population. However, the Enterprise may have a new ally on their side as Scotty (Pegg) gets rescued by an alien-female scavenger named Jaylah (Sofia Boutella). She's the lucky one who escaped from Krall's entrapment and she takes Scotty to her makeshift home which is an old Starfleet vessel that crashed on this planet over a hundred years ago. It also turns out Krall is actually Balthazar Edison, the former captain of Jaylah's ship who became disillusioned with his life and left the Federation.

"Star Trek Beyond" doesn't go beyond the realms of great "Star Trek" films from the past but I dug up this threequel. Director Justin Lin does a great job at staging well-choreographed action scenes and the cast does what they do best, being themselves and engaging in humorous character banter. She may have zebra-striped make-up but Sofia Boutella is a great new character to the franchise and I hope Paramount keeps her for future sequels.

The plot doesn't go to the furthest reaches of originally but these are actors who are completely invested with the material and if the actors are having fun in this roller coaster ride Ghostbusters full movie, so are we.
