Sprucing up Your Home in the Winter Season

by Klaudia Hubbard Marketing Consultant
Along with Christmas and the happy mood of the coming new year, winter also brings with it quite a chilly experience. From the shortening of the days, diminished daylight, and the obvious dip in mercury, to the general lethargy that we all experience, it seems that nothing can escape the mood that winter brings with it. And with the changed mood, the shift in our daily wardrobe, the decor elements in our homes also end up changing.

From switching from light and thin linens to the fluffiest heavy blankets, and avoiding sitting on the cold furniture for the morning coffee, the changes are as varied as possible. Winterizing, as it is lately being called, is something that we begin doing in early November, so that by the time winter fully hits, we are fully prepared for it. If you are someone who has checked out the basics of fixing creaky doors, roofs, and somewhat cold-proofed your space, but are still not quite at ease in your space, keep reading. We have done our homework and have compiled a list of things that you can try for your decor to make it warmer and more comfortable.

Thick Curtains:

Even if your windows are completely sealed up against gaps, glass can still transmit quite a lot of heat. As such, having the right curtains goes a long way in keeping your space insulated. Thick curtains not only help retain heat, but also mute outside sounds. Ideally, the curtains should be light colored so that they can transmit natural light.

Rugs and Carpets:

If you’re looking for a way to vamp up the look and style of your decor and make your space warm and cozy at the same time, rest assured that you cannot go wrong with investing in a rug. Rugs bring warmth to a place, literally and figuratively. These marvelous accessories can be used to set a theme in a space, or to reinforce a pre-existing one. If your space has minimal looking elements in it already, a modern rug with geometric or abstract designs can do wonders for your space. And if you are not so inclined towards modern rugs, you can aim for a timeless traditional or oriental design which will make your space absolutely stand out.

Comforters and Blankets:

Who said comforters and blankets are just for your beds? These can be used in a plethora of ways. Line your couch set or chair with a thick comforter or blanket to turn it a notch more comfortable. Not just that, you can even use the blanket or comforter to cover yourself while you sit down, oriental style, on your modern rug, near a fireplace or a heat-source.

Candles or Warm Lights:

With the chilly weather already putting us in a lethargic mood, whats better than warm lights to that aren’t harsh on your eyes. Light large sized candles that are sure to warm up the space and look good as well. These can be used to set a romantic mood as well.

Electric Heaters to Match your Aesthetics:

Gone are the days when electric heaters used to look unappealing and out of place in a modern home. Electric heaters are every bit as aesthetic as the decor elements available in the marketplaces. Choose a heater that matches with the decor of your winter home’s vibe and take your style a notch higher.
